Thanks for the lead Nick.
If you're the Nick with the nice new web site! I'm admiring it right now!
I'll inquire at the German store you mentioned.

  Thanks again

I'm looking for matching chess pieces for a mephisto modular board which I understand are 4x4 cm or just under 1 1/2 " x 1 1/2" squares.

I'm definitely not a purist so if anyone suggest a substitute or better selection I'm open to that.

And I don't know what to think of wood pieces on this board. As a matter of fact I  don't know it I need magnet or if pressure sensitive as I have not received the the board as yet.
  Thanks

The chess pieces for the Mephisto Modular Board have quite strong magnets.  The board is auto sensory therefore you do need magnetic chess pieces with good strong magnets in order for the board to sense the moves.

You might want to search in german ebay where they sometimes sell a set of chess pieces for the modular board or you might ask at Niggermann if they still have some for sale.

Regular chess pieces will not work and chess pieces from press/push sensory boards will likely also not work because the magnets are not strong enough.

Niggemann's website is:

https://www.schachversand.de/startneue.htm

You will probably need to e-mail them as I didnt see any chess pieces for sale there currently for a modular board.

All the best

Nick

I'm looking for matching chess pieces for a mephisto modular board which I understand are 3x3 cm or just under 1 1/8 " x 1 1/8" squares.
