Please note that the only wear to this machine is on the control panel, the re-programmed ROM has a worn transfer, while the rest of the machine is in great condition having been kept inside a large wooden chess table since purchase. Thanks for the kind words though.

I will take some more pictures tonight, including some of the unit working with the lights on (as requested.)

Hello again Ben

If you need to sell this chessboard, it's very important that you show us some pictures of the  board operating (a picture of the display board functionning will be helpful, a picture of the power adaptor will also interesting).

Regards

Hi, Ben,
Yes I'd agree it's probably an Almeria (produced in '88, followed by a Portorose '89) and worth quite alot, especially if upgraded to London. Sorry, again no funds but I have a later version in a smaller board so not needing another. Hope you can get a buyer.
Now I see you make synths for a living .... that interests me alot as I'm in the stage of attempting to finish a project of some 30 odd years, what with bringing up a family (and managing to collect a few chess comps) these things stay unfinished. Are you aware of the Elektor Formant? That's the thing I'm trying to finish before I expire!! Trouble is the old eyesight plays havoc with soldering I'm doubting I'll finish it.
Apologies to the chess affinity out there but I thought what a co-incidence.

                regards,  Terry

Hello

It's probably a Mephisto Almeria  upgraded  to the London program. The London modul was never available (it's a upgraded ROM available later). Look under the sticker added on the modul ( maybe you'll see the real name of this model).

Here's a link to some photos of the board, I've plugged it in, and it operates just fine. The reed switches are functioning, and the only wear seems to be on the logos on the pull-out control panel.

All the pieces are there too, with two spare queens? is this normal? (they are magnetic, so as to operate the reed switches, but I'm preaching to the converted here.)

Still not sure as to which model this is exactly, I've not seen a picture of the same one online.

Took a picture with me in the background too, just to confirm this is an honest posting. I'm open to sensible offers for this thing, and depending on how much is offered, I'm prepared to send it abroad.

Again, thanks for reading, any further information would be great.

Checking http://www.elpeon.com/index.php?page=5&mod=mephisto
These have sold for 200 to 649 Euros. So I'll bet there is someone out here willing to buy it from you. It is out of my price range :^)

Hi, I'm Ben and I make synthesizers for a living, I sometimes use chess sets with missing pieces as enclosures for circuits, and so I'm always on the look-out for chess boards.

I picked up a Mephisto board this morning, it has "Mephisto Munchen" written in the top corner, and "Weltmeister Champion, World Champion du monde 1988" written by the display, along with "London".

Now, I don't play chess that much, and for that I am very sorry, I know that is going to annoy a lot of people on here. I'm interested in finding out just exactly what this board is/does, and if it is worth much/whether anyone would like to buy it. If it isn't worth me selling this off, and sending it to a collector, then I am going to turn it into a full-size analog synthesizer, and again, I am sorry for any offense this may cause.

I'll post some pictures up once I get to my camera.

Thanks for reading.
