No Tom. The Grandmaster is yet another one.
My CGL calls itself Computachess.2. and has a light brown and white board with yellow and dark brown pieces. I guess it is otherwise identical in all important respects.

Mike,
The CGL you mention - could that be this one?

It resembles Hanimex and Schneider, but its colours are different and bears the impressive name of ... Grandmaster.
Best regards,
tom

Yes Tom that is another one. It seems that they tweaked the key layout a bit for the Schneider.
I have three versions of it (CXG, CGL and Hanimex) and I reckon that there are probably a few more, as well.
All the best

G'Day Tommy
There is a difference between the Hanimex Computachess II and III. The II shown in your picture is a peg sensory portable and the III is a press sensory tabletop. I think that Patrick has the tabletop one, but I am not sure.
With these CXG clones it is all very confusing.

The Computachess 1700 seems to be the spitting image of the Schneider Mk.3 - which is definitely a tabletop:

tom

G'day!
The Hanimex Computachess II was my first ever chess computer which was given to me for by birthday in the early 80's. This is the computer that got me interested in computer chess in the first place.

You are in luck, I have the manual scanned in and converted to PDF. Here is the link...

Cheers,
Tom.

Hi Patrick
The Hanimex Computachess III is I think exactly the same as the CXG Computachess II, model CXG 002 or WA 002.
With the batteries in and the switch on the side turned on you should get lights and a sound. The machine is a normal press sensory.
8 Levels - 5sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 3, 4, 10, 12, 14 min. The lights on the left edge tell you the level.
It is a simple machine with conventional keys and functions. The only way to set up a position is by using the reverse play and takeback keys. You can verify a position by using the piece keys.
Hope the above helps, plus 'trial and error' (my method ).
All the best
Mike

Hi.
I found my dad's computachess III but I don't have a clue how to make it work. Does anybody know how to make it run or better yet, does anybody have a manual?
Thanks!

Hi
This machine was made by Newcrest Technology Ltd of Hong Kong. The main brand name is CXG (or Crown), but, depending on which country it was sold in, it could be called Hanimex, Systema, Schneider or one or two other brand names. I have the Computachess II which is similar :-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5186018915&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
Tom has a Schneider III :-

I have yet to find any information around on these machines regarding programmer, processor type and speed etc.
Hope this helps a bit,
Mike

The book now seems a "papirus"!
Thanks Ismenio for the effort.

Anyone who knows this brand?
I own the HCG 1700 model, I found it today in my parents house, 22 years later!
