Sorry, I don't have a clue! I don't own a Bavaria board (and if i had one, i wouldn't take the pieces apart as long as they are working!)

Robert,
Even I wouldn't do that! I don't even dare open my Tasc ones! The reason I asked that is to try to better understand the whole patent issue that brought Tasc down. I believe the Bavaria came up before the Tasc and if that's true, wouldn't Tasc have an argument showing that there was already a chess computer with that technology?
I think they use a term like "prior-art reference".
Just curious.

Thanks Mike. I didn't get the Serial # for the CC1 but I can still try it! I had a nice conversation with the Director of Programs there and I got his phone number
Interesting question about the pieces! I was looking at them more closely and I was wondering about the differences. I should also ask him about that!
Something else that I thought was interesting. Remember that message I posted here from a former Fidelity employee and she mentioned about the prototype, etc? They played a short video with Sid Samole where the also mentions that!
I would also be interested to know about other chess museums, especially if they feature electronic models.

Great pictures Ismenio.
Just a couple of questions :-
(1) Did you get the Serial Number of the CC1?
and
(2) Did you offer them a set of original pieces for the display?
I understand that there is a chess computer museum in Germany? and there is the one that you visited in Miami but are there any others in the World?

I wonder how many are just kept in homes where only a few have a chance to even see pictures of them.

That's a question, I have asked myself many times!

By the way, any update on your Tasc pieces?

Oh, it's working again! It's a white knight again and I played about 3 games since then without problems! And also the operator unit seems to be cured! It looks, that it really was a temperature problem, as the temperature in my room is about 3 degrees C. lower than before.
I hope it stays this way!

I believe you are right again Robert! I only wish we had more of these rarities on “display” on the web for others to enjoy them. I wonder how many are just kept in homes where only a few have a chance to even see pictures of them.

Interesting auction!

And I was the sold bidder! So I "won" it
Looks like prototypes are not on the top of the list for a lot of people and I can understand that. Me, I would very much like to get them! Even the non-working ones!
|
Me too! But i would not like to run into debt because of this! If i was a millionaire, then i would have paid 5000€!

My bid would have been a lot less if I knew of the outcome

Only because none of the "Hardcore-collectors" are here, as Victor Rawik, Kurt Kispert, Jan Ströher and so on. I think, they would have outbid both of us!

Thank you, Ismenio, for the beautiful pictures!
Would be interesting, how much some people would give for the computer on the left!

Some pictures from the Chess Museum in Miami, FL. I tried to see the old site for Fidelity’s headquarters but it seems the numbers in the street address that we see on the manuals have changed over the years and maybe even the buildings. The CC1 seems to be the main attraction in the section on electronic chess:

Here’s the Altair 8800 that Ron Nelson used to program the CC1. This is in itself a highly collectible computer as it is accepted as being the first one you could buy. I think I remember one that sold on eBay a couple years ago for maybe over $2,000

Some more familiar friends found there. Even non-Fidelity ones.
