Google, find image, "chess computer" ?

I think that the first time I saw it, it was linked to an IBM product or challenge, but I cannot remember precisely.

Best,
Alain

Very good Alain! I actually saw it first in some contest where they had that picture with a caption saying “not an actual chess computer”. I posted that here a while back.

Sorry folks! I should have made it clear that I was just kidding
My theory is that someone probably had a Mattel LCD to show but then at the last minute he/she found out that there was this really cool model: the MB Milton! And that's what they bought to the exposition but whoever was taking the pictures and labeling them didn't know about that and just labeled it a "Mattel"

Now, I won't tell you where you can find this one:

Steffen,

I compared it to the name on my own Milton machine.

You're absolutely right: the name of Milton is in the same place. I'm afraid there's not much chance the machine Ismenio came across ever saw the factories of Mattel

Best regards,

tom

...in Germany mostly sold as "Milton" (the photo shows this, like "Milton Bradley")...

Hi,

no, someone mixed it up with the "MB" or "milton Bradley".

Browsing around in the endless search for chess computer material I came across this page for a European Vintage Computer Festival for 2004. Some interesting old computers but what caught my attention was the “extremely” rare Mattel Robotic Chess Computer you can see in the 5th row!

Ismenio,

I was as surprised as you were. I tried to enlarge the part where I thought I saw the name:

I wouldn't be surprised if it really says "Milton", in which case this would be a Milton machine.

By the way, the most original machine is the last, which made me feel somewhat peckish.

Best regards,

tom
