Does the Bavaria board really work fully with the MM I and MM IV modules?

this would surprise me very much.

My question is about which modules do or don't work in the Bavaria board .

as Mike explained, the piece recognition makes the Bavaria board unique. Only newer Richard Lang modules (with dotmatrix display, the first Bavaria compatible was a modified Portorose in 1990) like Vancouver 16/32 or Genius 68030 are prepared to support it and will work. No Polgar, RISC, Magellan ...

Best regards,
Bernhard

Daniel. As Alain says, it is the information in red.

Does the Bavaria board really work fully with the MM I and MM IV modules?

Hi,

on http://www.schachcomputer.at, you gan find this compatibility information.
Polgar module is not compatible with the Bavaria (see http://www.schachcomputer.at/mephist2.htm)

My question is about which modules do or don't work in the Bavaria board . I don't know anything about the Mephisto computers. I would have immagined that all modules should work. After all , that's the point of a modular system. But from what I've read, it looks like some do work for sure and others don't , and yet others may work only some of the time ! Can anyone here tell me which modules will or will not work FOR SURE in a Bavaria ? Will Polgar work ? Also, why do some module sets come as 3 pieces and others only as 2 ? And can the LCD be used with any modules ?

Thanks in advance . And ismenio, keep up the good work .

I have brought up an earlier thread about Mephisto modules. See the Hegener & Glaser thread.

The thing about the Bavaria board is that it recognises each piece type as it is placed on the board e.g. white pawn, black rook etc. None of the earlier modules provided for this so they will not work with the Bavaria piece recognition. Bernhard would be able to tell you whether they are totally incompatible. It may be just the 16/32 bit modules which work with the Bavaria.

The third module in some sets is a power supply module. I assume that there may have been problems with power supply for the more powerful modules so the adaptor lead plugs into the top of this module rather than into the side of the board. Having said that my Genius 68030 London works fine without the extra module.

Certain modules eg the Polgar, Genius have two lines of information on their displays; others have large digits in a single line e.g. Senator. For instance my MM IV or Senator will not work with a Polgar display and vice versa.

Hope this helps for now.
All the best
Mike

Hello All,

Firstly , thanks and compliments to ismenio for providing this site and board for our pleasure.
