Same here!

Funny thing is, I do play on my PC from time to time and I enjoy it. But I agree with Daniel on the ratings argument! And I know we have heard this thousands of times before but it is so natural to play touching and moving the pieces!

Were on computers all the time these days. Its so nice to sit down, tv OFF, music on, glass of wine and play a analog chess computer.

Anyways, what use is the super high PC elo unless yoru a GM. Will all those with a ranking greater than 2200 please raise their hands!

Daniel.

Daniel

I think you have come to the right place.

Sorry Daniel of course you are correct but most of my interest is with the real old timers of 20 years old or more.

Sadly dedicated chess computer development had almost ceased by 1994 as PC software drew level then disappeared into the distance in terms of strength of play. Ruud Martins new module "Resurrection" for the Mephisto boards is hopefully the first step on the way back.

It sounds like you are likely to pick up a bargain which ever one you select.

All the best

Further to my searches for a computer chess upgrade. A search of local stores stock has released a great assortment of out-dated chess computers!

I've decided to stick with one that is battery operated. Here are the options...

Mephisto Milano  Pro (will have to ship it interstate) (http://www.alte-schachcomputer.de/sammlungmephisto.htm)
Saitek Kasparov GK2100
Saitek Virtuoso (isnt she a pretty boy! http://www.alte-schachcomputer.de/datenvirtuoso.htm)

At the moment Im leaning towards the virtuoso, as short of a Mephisto Exclusive, its the only wood computer chess board I've seen! The third option, at roughly 30% more over the Mephisto Milano pro is a new Saitek Kasparov Master Chess. This is apparently the old Milano pro upgraded.

So, what would you have.. an older H&G Milano Pro or the newer upgraded Saitek Master? Any mystique about having real Mephisto?

They dont seem to make'em like the Virtuoso any more..

Daniel.

Hello Daniel,

The Saitek Master Chess is the same as the Milano pro; the only difference is that normally with the Master Chess the adaptor is included and the name and color of the case has changed! If you already have a 9V DC adaptor then the Milano pro would be a better option.

The Virtuoso is the weakest of the three listed above. And he doesnn't have a display (big disadvantage for me! )

Heh, the Virtuoso came out in 1994... thats still too modern? I think I can find a Saitek Turbo King 2 as well.

Sorry, nothing older.

Daniel.

Daniel

I cannot answer your question. These chess computers are much too modern for me. I am sure that others who know the machines will give you their opinion.

What intrigues me is your first remark - "A search of local stores stock has released a great assortment of out-dated chess computers!"

What others are available in this assortment please?

All the best
Mike
