Hi All,

Sorry I've been away. Working on the DVD plus all the other stuff that I have to handle at work, home, etc. is taking up all of my time.
Just wanted to give an update on our charity auction to let you know that I finally got around sending the Byte to Steffen.
I want to thank all of you again for supporting this effort. I am sure this will make a difference for those kids.

The donation was sent to St. Jude today:

All the best,

Ismenio

PS: I have to once again, apologize for all the unanswered messages I have received. I'll to try catch up with them this weekend

Hello chaps,

I am happy to support the children.
I think all those of us who have the luck to possess chess computer collections can be happy to be in this situation.

So just giving away something of that what we own to those who need it is not a bad thing.

Regards,
Steffen

Everyone,

The auction is over and Steffen won! I don't think that was a big surprise, given his very generous US$ 500.00 bid!
I have also contacted St. Jude to let them know about this and they obviously are happy that the community is helping the kids:

Their message, in part, says:

Thank you for caring about the kids at St. Jude!  We really appreciate that!!

Thank you so much for thinking of us!

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Best wishes-

Thank you folks for your support! I'll post details of the donation here.
Steffen, please contact me so we can make arrangements. I'll try to pack the Byte for you within the next couple of days.

All the best,

Ismenio

Today's update, we had 2 bids:

(US$)

12-05-06 - $500.00 - Steffen  !!!
12-05-06 -  $90.00 - Meca
12-04-06 -  $75.00 - Overtom

Many thanks for participating folks! It's great to see that you're all helping this effort.

And a very special thanks for Luis for wanting to donate some money even if he didn't win!

Luis: I would check on the St Jude's site first as there may be a way for you to send it directly to them even from outside the US. If not, or if you want to, I'll be glad to send your donation along with the proceedings from the auction.
You can check it here: http://www.stjude.org/waystohelp

All the best,

Ismenio

Hi all,

This is a rare opportunity for collectors to get their hands on a complete, rare computer. The Brazilian-made Byte XD300.
This one is absolutely complete and 100% working (has not been opened/repaired). They're not easy to find, especially like this.

Comes with:

- The computer - Manufactured by Splice which seems to have cloned the Fidelity CC7 without permission
- All original pieces (plastic and with magnets)
- Box for the pieces
- A/C adapter (dual voltage: 110/220)
- Box
- Manual (in Portuguese)

It is important to know that I am not benefiting from this auction but will be donating 100% of the profits to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. So this is not only a chance for you to get a rare computer but also to help a noble and great cause. You can read details about the hospital on their website: http://www.stjude.org/

My reason for selecting St. Jude is personal. I have a niece who had a rare type of leukemia and the hospital took care of her (she had two bone marrow transplants and is doing fine now!). So this is a chance I have to say thank you and contribute a little to their research and to help other kids.

I have absolutely no idea of how much this computer is worth. So I'll let the interested ones set the price. There is no minimum starting bid.

Rules:

- anyone can participate
- auction will end on Dec 18, 2006 - 1:00PM US Eastern Time
- you can participate anonymously, I just ask that you pick a pseudonym ID
- I will do my best to post daily updates on the auction here
- I will ship internationally
- Winner pays the shipping costs (it is the same size as a CC7 for reference)
- send your bids to: ismenio@gmail.com

Here are some pictures of the actual Byte being auctioned. I can send high resolution pics. Just ask me.

The adapter has a voltage switch so it works in 110 or 220V (why don't they build them like that today? )
