Hi!, I have done the test with a Novag Constellation and it works with a DC unit, but, as I don't know about the electronic world ... Are you sure that we're not going to burn the computer with a DC unit?

Yes; in the worst case, the voltage regulator should work like a fuse...

@bobosse: Are you sure, that 500mA is enough? Normally the "Super"-Novags need 800 mA (according to the sticker on the bottom)

OTOH, i was told, that for an electrician, it should be rather easy, to turn a DC into an AC-adaptor...

Do not take risk.
It's possible to find some AC unit 9V 500mA for a cheap price. For instance in France:
http://www.gotronic.fr/catalog/transformateurs/transfoframe.php?page_cible=adapt1.htm

model MW905AC for 7,60 Euros

That's a new for me, Robert, do you mean that a computers with AC power supply may work with an DC adaptor with higher volt?

Correct!

First, i would try it with the same voltage, but if it doesn't work...

This is a good question.
Did anybody used such high level Novag with a strong adapter (like 1000mA) at 9V or 7,5V ?
Does it work or does it really requires a 8,5V ?

No; the common voltage regulators can manage much higher voltages.

If you don't find a matching AC, I would try a DC-adaptor with >1000mAh. If it doesn't work with 9V, try 12V. Works here without problems!

AC devices often need a higher DC voltage than they need as AC. Had this with a Super Forte C 6 MHz: Did not work with 9 V DC (pale LCD and hangups after some moves); but with 12 V there was no problem anymore!

best regards,
Robert

I think you need  an AC Output adaptor. There're universal ones for laptops that gives you AC output. If you don't find one you'll have to go to an electronic warehouse.

One idea more, the constellation, super constellation, superforte, scorpio and diablo chess computers works with the same adaptor. You can look for a Constellation with the power supply unit in ebay  unit for not a high amount.

I recently acquired a Novag Super Expert 96k chess computer in but I can't use it since I don't have the adapter. Does anyone happen to know where I can buy such an adapter? It is such an usual voltage ( 8.5v 800mah) that none of the current adapters or universal adapters appear to support it.

If anyone has any information about this, I would sincerely appreciate them letting me know. Thank you.
