Mike:

Thanks for the list !!
I think that it might be a good idea if you startet a new topic with this list.  That might help to make it grow over the years and easier to find.

best regards

As promised this is the updated list of CC1 Serial Numbers. Some of the names are missing to protect Ebay anonymity. And some have been left out because I just do not know them.

11435 Chris Tatham
12140 Ismenio Sousa
12315 Tom Luif (Ebay 12/01/07)
12459 "supersebastiaan" (Ebay 29/01/06)
13124 Heinz Nixdorf
14265 Manfred Vellmer
16533 Dick Schneiders
20137 Josef Zwinger
22521 "fornaxx" (Ebay 12/10/06)

?          "keckteh" (Ebay 28/09/06)
?          "halcyon_years"  (Ebay 30/08/06)
?          "vitamin-zen"  (Ebay 19/02/06)

As far as I know this includes all genuine sales of CC1s on Ebay in the last 3 1/2 years plus the CC1 list posted on Kurts Forum.

Have I missed any?

All the best

Well ... as you can see, all the pieces are there, although I must confess they have been borrowed from the CC3 - which has pieces that are identical to the CC1's.

Yes i saw that there are pieces on the picture - what i mean is, if the computer was sold on ebay - there wasn´t any pieces!

I wouldn't be too sure about that, especially not if you look at what I did to a CC10

Tom, i think every first time is difficult

I will told you more if i open a cc3?! Let´s dance!

You are of course right there are many Excalibur's with this screen    The one on my avatar is actually from the Excalibur E-Chess.

I can't picture where Hilversum is in Holland.  When I used to live in England and Germany, I used to travel across Holland and Belgium a lot for pleasure and work.  But mainly back and forth by car to and from England and Germany.  I might have to look you up on a map.

Well since my avatar has now been disclosed, I will have to start looking for another

Thank you for showing two CC1 games. Reminds me of the games I played long go (in 1977) against a Fidelity computer (probably a CC3) at a local bar in Hilversum, a Dutch town where I then lived.

By the way, Mike, the serial number of the Overtom CC1 is 12315.

Mike/Tom:

Thanks for the good luck wishes    I am seriously hoping that it is just the switch and it won't have to be opened.

But if this is not the case then I guess I would have to donate it to scientific research

It is had for me to take photos at work because where I work photographic equipment is banned but i will try and take some anyway if possible and if it becomes necessary.

The serial number on mine is: 23743

And so that my CC1 does not go down without a final farewell here are the last 2 games that it played.  Of course it lost both of them

[Event "2007 - Under 1400 Active Chess Cup "]

Of course the CC1 cannot play 30 sec/moves but I had entered it into a tournament anyway under these conditions.

So there we have it possibly the last 2 games that my CC1 will ever play

Good luck Nick. Take pictures please. I wish I had taken some when I opened the CC3. Then people would believe me when I tell them that access is through the front.

Congratulations Tom on getting a CC1.

Gentlemen, if you let me have the serial numbers I will add them to the list.

I think it's very brave to have your CC1 opened!

The Overtom Museum received a CC1 two weeks ago (http://overtom.nl/chescom/EngCC1.html), but I wouldn't dare to open it

By the way, I suppose your present avatar is derived from Touch Chess (of which there seem to be Novag and Excalibur editions).

Wish you (and the electronics surgeons) good luck!

Please, let us know, what you find out!

I will post the results of a comparison test.  I also have a Novag Emerald which I will compare at the same time.

Sorry about the 'off-thread' comment here, but I just
wanted to apologize to 'spacious_mind' for pushing the
price up in the closing seconds of the auction for the
Novag Emerald Classic Plus that went off the other night.
I thought I was making a 'killer bid' with $123.50 in the
closing seconds, but a certain sniper got me!
Hope the machine works fine and adds to your collection.
    all the best
      Larry

Hi Larry:
Thanks for the message.  But to be honest I was blissfully unaware of the action  The auction finished while I was at work, therefore I was pleasantly surprised that I actually won with pennies to spare.  I had bid US $100 max for the computer and it came in at $99.48.  A few more cents and it would have been yours !!

I cannot count the amount of times that someone outbid me in the last moment so my sympathies to everyone including myself when that happens.

But I am looking forward playing with it.  I already have the Karpov 2294 so I am dying to find out if these 2 are exactly the same machines or not.

Anyway good look on your future purchases and please do not put too much hurt back at me the next time we meet head to head

All the best

Nick

This is the old thread Nick.

http://users.boardnation.com/~chesscomputers/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=710

To open up the CC1 you have to take off the chessboard membrane which gives access to four screws.

Hi Nick,
there are not any skrews on the bottom of the CC1.
I heard from one Repair-Try from Arno - he can only open a part of the chassis and must do the work with the half-open CC1. It was very hard, but i think he had repaired it.
The best way for you is to contact him - he will give you more informations, i think.

Nick I haven't had this problem. Hopefully it is just a dodgy power connection or the power supply on the blink.

A year ago I tried to take a CC3 apart to change the LED display. It is a nightmare to work on. My experience is on an old thread called "Back From The Grave - Two More". By the time I had finished the CC3 was only fit for spares.

Good luck
Mike

Mike:
I think rather then me mess with it and kill it for ever, i will probably take it to work and have someone out of the electronic board repair area look at.

How do you take it apart?  I don't see any screws or are they hidden behing the pads?

best regards
