Hi All,

@Antonio: Legal que voce recebeu. Todos os outros pedidos pelos Brasileiros foram enviados. Obrigado pelos comentarios.

@caesarjon: I heard the very same comment from my wife We should really take that as a great compliment
Plus, they're right, aren't they? I'm glad you liked it!

And for those curious about it, I finally have the totals per country since before I only had the number of labels and hadn't had a chance to break it down like this:

AUSTRALIA Count        3
BRAZIL Count            6
EL SALVADOR Count  1
FRANCE Count          4
GERMANY Count        11
HOLLAND Count          1
HUNGARY Count        1
ITALY Count              2
NETHERLANDS Count 5
SPAIN Count              1
ENGLAND Count      12
USA Count              14

Grand Count            61

Now the actual number of countries is 12. I'm sure Professor Tom Luif will correct me here but I think that Holland is part of the Netherlands so that should count as 1 country Also, I just noticed from previous posts that I had counted Italy twice I didn't capiche that!

Best regards,

Ismenio

Hi Steffen,

I'm glad you liked it Let's see if there's interest for a future project. I did get some emails regarding another DVD. We'll see.

To date, we had 61 DVDs ordered from 13 countries (your friend from Germany is #61 ):

01- USA
02- Germany
03- France
04- Italy
05- England
06- Australia
07- Netherlands
08- El Salvador
09- Italy
10- Spain
11- Australia
12- Brazil
13- Hungary

I have also updated the DVD page with some unsolicited comments I got from those who ordered and watched it. I'm reproducing them with their permission. And also the snapshots from the DVD menus.

Again, I can't thank you all enough for everything. There's no way I would have guessed that there would be 61 people who would be interested in this!!!

Also, looks the the defect rate is not bad. So far I had to sent 3 replacements because of problems playing the DVDs. If you do have problems, please contact me and I'll send you a replacement. I would like to know what DVD player you're using.

Updated page: http://www.ismenio.com/chess_dvd.html

All the very best,

Ismenio

Dear Ismenio,

on Thursday your DVD arrived at my home.
I´ve been watching it already TWICE
It must have been a huge lot of work. And it´s very interesting, showing several new details. I also love your 2 interviews with the former Fidelity-employees, which gives a great retro-feeling to the viewer.

I was also very happy to show you and Linda some things. Please let me know whenever I can help you for some other projects.

Best & 1,000 thanks,
Steffen

Thank you all, once again for your very kind words. I'm glad you're enjoying the DVD. For those who placed orders within the past couple of days, I will be shipping them next week

Again, many thanks. I am still surprised by the level of interest shown and by the messages I'm receiving. I'll answer all of them. (Still quite busy!)

All the very best,

Ismenio

Yes, wonderful DVD I had to watch all the way through, unfortunately getting into trouble with the wife for not doing the dishes!!
In common with the first commercial chess computer in it's 30th year Ismenio, you have also produced the FIRST chess computer DVD.
You must have so much energy, watching you going up and down stairs (I don't know how many times) I had to have a lie down afterwards!!

Hi Folks,

Multiple comments on this reply

@Jonathan,
Many thank for your post and I'm really glad you liked the DVD I'm really happy that you found it was worth watching it. To me personally, it means that the objective was met. /Ismenio-takes-a-bow/

Regarding the Grandmasters and the rating system for the computers I must say that I also didn't quite understand that. As you said, that was the declaration by the former USCF employee and I just have it on the DVD "as is". I will try to contact him to see if I can get more info about that for us.

@Sargon: Thanks for the feedback. It's good to know that it has arrived. But I hope I didn't set your hopes too high! You may not like the DVD that much after you've seen it   Either way, I'd like to know what you think '::)

@bobose: Thanks for the feedback about the PAL system

Hi Ismenio,

I received my DVD on Thursday. Thank you very much for the very prompt delivery. I was actually heading out shopping when I saw it in the letter box. I thought I would just quickly slip it into the DVD player to check it, but that "quick check" turned out to be a half hour chapter by chapter preview! So needless to say it works perfectly on my stock standard commercial Australian DVD player.

I watched the entire thing in one sitting on Friday night. For me, as an Australian, I found the chapters on the TASC, the Maimi Museum and the robotic machines to be very worthwhile and extremely interesting. I think the only way I was / am ever going to see those things was via your DVD and for that I am very grateful.

You certainly have a very large collection of your own too. I found that segment just as entertaining as the above-mentioned ones.

One thing I was not quite sure about though was the interview with the ex-USCF employee regarding the rating procedures used for the dedicated machines. I had always been led to believe that the USCF CRA procedures involved (since the end of the 80s) playing 48 games against humans in a minimum time control of Rapid Play. I had never heard of Grandmasters per se being employed specifically for this purpose and on reflection that would not have made any sense at all, since at the time any Grandmaster would have demolished any dedicated machine if they were even remotely serious about it. The rating differences between Grandmasters and the strongest dedicated machines of the time would have made any rating achieved by the machines statistically irrelevant by using this method alone. As far as I was aware, the machines were playing in (generally) open events for rating purposes. The average strength of the opposition was usually roughly comparable to the anticipated rating that the machine would achieve. So the opponents would include anything from middle range experts to perhaps National Master strength (on average of course - there was on reason a machine could not meet the ocassional IM or GM). David Kittinger describes the process well in terms of the 48 game rating test he undertook for the Novag Zircon II.

Perhaps there was some process going on that I was completely unaware of, but I did not read anything in the Computer Chess Reports between the years 1983 and 1995 inclusive that suggested ratings were achieved by incognito matches against Grandmasters.

Apart from that point though (which is a comment about someone's opinion - not your production of couse), I would like to congratulate you for all your hard work. Thank you!

As for the PAL system, I *think* that won't be a problem but I can't tell for sure! Can anyone who uses that system and got the DVD give us some feedback?

It works very well on a PAL system.

Thanks for the updates guys!

I'm starting to get the reports via email and things look good so far. Seems that folks are enjoying it... and for some reason they're shying away from telling me what they didn't like

Some quick messages and a quick update at the end (sorry! I'm still quite busy )

@KarmaZen: Yes, I got a few requests from Spain as well!
Actually, the list now contains 12 countries!!!
Here's the complete list (in no particular order):

1- USA
2- Germany
3- France
4- Italy
5- England
6- Australia
7- Netherlands
8- El Salvador
9- Italy
10- Spain
11- Australia
12- Brazil

As for the PAL system, I *think* that won't be a problem but I can't tell for sure! Can anyone who uses that system and got the DVD give us some feedback?

@sderyke2002: The DVD+Resurrection bundle was only for "pre-orders" (Joke!!!!) - But nice to see you're getting the great module from Ruud! Please share it with us here!!

@Mike: I'm curious to find out the outcome of the "reviewing panel"

Couple of updates:

1 - Errata: In the closing credits of most of the DVDs shipped, you will see a message "Please do copy this DVD or rip it and post it on p2p... etc)"

I really meant to say "Please do NOT copy this DVD... etc" (like in the opening message). Sorry about that.

2 - I got some emails asking about the "limited quantities"
I can really burn more copies with no problems. The reason for that message (which I'll remove when I have some time, hopefully this weekend) was that I honestly estimated that I'd have a request for 15 copies (top!) and even though I knew some (if not most) would be sending a contribution, I wanted to be covered in case I had to pay for everything out of my pocket.

The community has been very supportive and most of th requests are coming with a donation. Thank you one more time for it! So the the cost of the DVDs have not been a problem so far.

And I'm surprised, glad and nervous to report that, as I type this, 52 copies have been requested!
That's in 10 days since the DVD was released!!

I am very surprised to see this much interest!!!

Again, thank you all and like I said before, I hope you'll find at least some segments that may have made it worthwhile to sit through almost two hours to watch the whole thing!!!

All the very best,

Ismenio

Ismenio,

I too ordered one of  the DVD's and Resurrection module but for some reason all I got today was the DVD.

Is the module coming in a separate shipment?

But seriously, thanks for the work you did on this project.
