I'm not really sure it is necessary. If you stick the text through something like Google's translation engine, you should be able to understand the eBay advertisement. Even though the translation engine obviously does an extremely poor job, it's still enough to be able to understand the original text. I've never really had a problem yet doing things this way, nor been in the situation of having to ask a German speaker to clarify things for me.

Of course, it might be different if you have to participate in a dialogue with the seller, however I have bought stuff off German eBay before without any problems. The vast majority of Germans I have contacted write anything from passable English to perfect English in any case. Actually, some of them have far better English skills than native English speakers.

Now of course if you are trying to translate the Chessmaster Diamond manual into English, well that is a completely different ballgame!!

Hello Jon
Indeed google translation engine does a poor job but the translation is good enough to understand German

If I don't understand some german pages I'll ask Endspielgott

Well Christian after reading the German and then your translation, I think Ismenio should offer you the position of official translator!!

It would be also a job for you: Your German is better than that of many Germans!

regards,
Robert

Hi Robert:

I could also say the same for your english !!

Take care

Well our customers usually pay some 500ÔéČ per hour for my service...but that translation only took me 10 minutes

Ahh I forgot for Mercedes drivers its +20%

Christian

Christian!
Wow!!
Are you saying that Ismenio drives a Mercedes !!  If that is the case then I am sure that he can top your current $500 per hour fee.

+ 20 % sounds fair to me!

btw.  did I mention in my previous post that by posting a reply you are acknowledging that I am your official agent and that my agent fees are 65% of what you ahem.. we make !!

I believe the job is still vacant.  I don't know how much Ismenio pays though.  You may need to negotiate hard!

All the best

Nick

Well I will try my luck, but I am not an official translater:

Original Mephisto Schachcomputer, mit Netzteil und Bedienungsanleitung, in Originalverpackung.

Original Mephisto Chess Computer, with power adapter and user┬┤s manual and original box.

---------------

Voll funktionsf├Ąhig, sehr guter Zustand. Nichtraucherhaushalt.
Damaliger Kaufpreis: 516,00 DM

Device is in full working order and a very good condition. Comes from a non-smoking household.

----------------

Sehen Sie auch in meine anderen Auktionen, spart Porto.

Have a look at my other auctions too, this could save postage fees.

----------------------

Privatverkauf ohne Garantieanspruch oder R├╝ckgaberecht

Private sale without garantuee, no sending back.

-------------------------

The computer offered is a Mephisto Exclusive Senator 6th Generation, almost as new condition. I played a few times,
the last two years it was in the closet protected from dust. Mint condition, all pieces are there, power
adapter is there too. Comes with the original box.

Buyer pays postage fee. I intend to use Deutsche Post, but it can be anything else too, like you wish.
I pay the ebay fee. Be free to ask questions via email.

Happy bidding.

Hello

Since many of us are Ebay members and especially Ebay bidders , I suggest that we create a special topic to translate sentences/comments from German computers sellers.
Yes , it may be very annoying to be unable to understand what they sell and what they are talking about.
Therefore if German speaking users of this forum could help me/us to have a better understanding of what we bid , they would be of a great help.

Good idea , isn't it ?
