The Mephisto is the better machine but the 2150 is also probably strong enough to give you a good game for years to come.  It all depends on what you mean by an average club player.  I take it to mean like 1600 USCF and so the 2150 (although it is not really 2150 USCF) is definitely going to beat you most of the time.

I now have an old Radio Shack 1850 chess computer and I'm wanting to upgrade to a newer machine.  Ebay has the Radio Shack 2150L and the Mephisto Challenger at close to the same price.

Question.  What is your experience/opinion of these two machines?  I am a average club player and just want to improve my game.

Thanks!

Harold

If the computer is similar to the one shown here, I wouldn't mind receiving one as well, since I have no manual for this one.

Best regards,

tom

anyone know of any sources for a copy of a complete users manual. the radioshack index site provides only portions of the manual. and just a paragraph on the 2150.        tony
