Hi Brian, I had a small disappointment when I bought my
MB Phantom a couple of years back. I actually bought it as
a home pick up, as it was only about 80klms from home,
and I did'nt want to risk the postal system with the dust
cover. The guy said the box was included. When I got there it turned out he was talking about the pieces box.
The outer box was missing. Oh well, I still bought it as it
is in good working condition. The only other thing wrong
was the dark stains on the squares.
It's the original MB Phantom, going back to about 1982.
No particular playing strength, but a real conversation
piece to have out for visitors.
good to hear things worked out for you

Hi Larry.

I do also have an MB Phantom which i got from Mike Watters a regular poster here. I did have some issues getting an adapter to work for Canada but it is a beautiful machine.

I have only been collecting for a short time but just like a lot of people i like phantoms.

After setting up my software to track auctions on ebay i finally found something i was waiting for. A Milton Bradley Grandmaster at a buy now price of $299.

I tell my software to buy now! yet the seller has listed US buyers only. I send an email and wait patiently. Will he ship to Canada? Finally a reply, yes!

I try again buy now, again the buy now will not work. The seller has not changed the listing although he said he would. Another email exchange and again the seller is unable to change the listing.

Finally he sends me his telephone number and i call him. But no answer. I finally decide to create a new ebay account with a default US address!

Create the account log on and now where is that listing. Of course, it's been bought by someone else. This has all happened in the space of about 2 hours.

I call the seller again and he says he is sorry. I say i think we had a contract based on the exchange of emails and can he not simply refund the money to the other buyer and honor his deal with me.

No, sorry he says. A few angry emails exchanged with ebay tells me that nothing can be done.

So once more back to waiting for another listing. This time at least ready with my US account and now even a US re-mailer address just in case.

Then about two weeks ago again i stumble upon a listing. This time a Fidelity Phantom 6100. New in box?
Yes, new in box $299. The add has a single photo of a 6100 box.

This time my buy now works with my new user account and i email the seller with as you can imagine a couple of questions.

New in box? pieces are they complete? are the crowns there? is there a cover? is the adapter included? does it work? etc.

The reply comes back. Do you want me to open the box?

My reply of course how else can i be sure the unit is inside with all the components? Also a blurb about how can the unit be new and never opened.

Reply. Its all there.

It was as though i was talking to someone who never understood. That was it i thought she did not understand.

I paid, thinking i could always claim the money back through paypal if i received either an empty box or something i felt wrong.

Next day the same new seller has left me positive feedback. As we all know most sellers wait for the buyer to avoid the negatives that can and do result if they leave feedback first.

Sellers emails saying it has shipped. And i wait.

Today it arrived. The box is not wrapped and has postal stickers all over it. Canada post packing slips, customs papers, address stickers, etc.

The box is sealed with old sticky tape with the name Future Tronics on it. And a label with the address

FUTURE TRONICS
421 N. OAK ST.
INGLEWOOD, CA 90302

There are also notes on the tape that if broken return to the above address.

I peel back the tape and gently lift the lid. The board still has the seal tape on it. The pieces complete with crowns in a box which looks mint. The packing appears complete also. No cover. But the adapter is there still with the tag on. The manual looks slightly read but is near mint.

I pull back the board cover along one side and place the pieces on the board. Then cross my fingers and plug the unit in and turn the switch. It powers up without a problem.

I then set the unit up to auto-play and watch a complete game and the unit reset itself.

Finally i decide to go to ebay and leave positive feedback!
