I have seen that Mike has a list of the serial numbers in his site, here:
http://www.chesscomputeruk.com/html/fidelity_chess_challenger__cc1.html
and we can read there this list:
1002 Ebay ID “crusaderwoppy”
1171 Dick Schneiders (USA)
1668 “ultimategeek” (USA)
1827 Luis Barona Boj (Spain)
2367 Gaëtan Vignola (France)
2925 Alain Zanchetta (France)
5432 Wolfgang Rausch (Germany)
5580 Karsten Bauermeister (Germany)
6506 Steve Blincoe (USA)
6620 Kurt Kispert (Austria)
6875 Karsten Bauermeister (Niggemann Museum) (Germany)
7040 “meran” (Canada)
7765 Gorgon Haas
8206 Karsten Bauermeister (Germany)
8302 Mike Watters (UK)
11435 Chris Tatham (UK)
11744 Steffen Scholz (Germany)
12140 Ismenio Sousa (USA)
12315 Tom Luif (Netherlands)
12459 “supersebastiaan” (Netherlands)
13124 Heinz Nixdorf
13659 Luis Barona Boj (Spain)
14265 Manfred Vellmer (Germany)
15234 Luis Barona Boj (Spain)
16533 Dick Schneiders (USA)
16977 Eric Van Baars (Netherlands?)
20137 Axel Schumacher (Germany)
21490 Eric Belot (France)
22521 “fornaxx” (Germany)
22854 “ultimategeek” (USA)
22927 Nick Milicev (USA)
23143 Manfred Vellmer (Germany)
23558 “keckteh” (Spain)
23743 “spacious_mind”(USA)
27566 Manfred Vellmer (Germany)
29683 Larry Harper (Australia)
30409 Steffen Scholz (Germany)
36746 “dulce_simon” (Spain)
852194? Alwin Gruber (Germany)
Now, studing my 3 units and the photos I have found in the several web's collectors, I think that the very first units made were:
1.- SERIAL NUMBER HAVE 4 DIGITS
2.- THE SURFACE BOARD IS MATTE, HAS A LIGHT WHITE COLOUR, AND THE CHESS SET IS NOT REFLECTED ON IT

The other day I got beaten for the Novag Expert by Mr "maniacfurball" who bid at the exact second the auction closed.

I was watching that auction, and was surprised at the "timing" of his bid. I have seen bids at the last second before, and could not imagine it being done by a human hand. The sniper service I used will bid in the last few seconds and you can only have a single "snipe" going on at the same time, for free. However, for a fairly substantial fee they add a lot of additional services, one of which is placing the bid at the last second. Somehow, I don't think a few seconds makes a lot of difference. You actually got your bid in later than did my automatic bid.

While Ismenio is a wonderful person, and I like him a lot, I would go crazy trying to match his heightened sense of ethics. I can't do it, so I am letting myself go to the nether world.

Quote:Even more amazing, is the fact that at the time that CC3 auction was closing, I was on the golf course trying to chop down some trees using only a single golf ball.
I was far more successful in bidding on that auction, than I was in felling any trees.
How did I do it? No, I wasn't in two places at the same time (although, later in the evening, after celebrating too much, I wished I could have been). I didn't have my laptop in my golf bag, but that might be a solution in the future. And I didn't use my wife to bid for me - she would probably have refused me, anyway.
I am a bit embarrassed to say it, but I used a commercial sniper site to bid on that CC3 for me, while I was having fun on the golf course. I had looked into these services in the past, but never actually used one. I enjoy being awake at weird hours to bid on stuff, like you, and want to feel the rush as I push the button.
This was amazingly simply, though, so I might need to use it again, if I have a conflict in my schedule. All I needed to do was input the item number, my eBay id, and a bid over over $1,000 and the CC3 was mine.
Actually, I didn't quite bid that much, but I did put in a pretty large number.
While I was glad to win the CC3, it isn't quite as satisfying this way.

I clearly stood no chance. While you was causing ecological havoc with a small white ball I was researching how much would be reasonable to pay for such an item. I should have added a nought on the end.

Hopefully I am coherent as I just consumed a lot of beer. We had our weekly golf league tonight and I had my 2nd ever hole in one, and we sort of celebrated over a bunch of suds.
For you non-golfers out there, that means that the tee shot went in the hole. Unfortunately, unlike my other one, I didn't see it go in as the sun was in my eyes. One of the other guys said he thought it went in the hole, but nobody believed him. However, I did go and look in the hole, thinking that I was being a fool to do so, and there was the ball.

While this was a very well struck 7-iron shot, obviously there is much more luck in doing this than skill. The ball hit the green about 10 feet below the hole and just rolled in like a putt. So I am told, as all I saw was the ball in the air, due to the setting sun in my eyes. I don't play a lot anymore, usually only a couple times a week, and am only a bogey golfer. However, these sorts of individual shots do pique my interest all over again.

Whew!! That's a relief. I usually don't post when I am "under the influence" for fear of making an idiot of myself. Of course, there is the strong possibility that I did make an idiot of myself, and that is simply my norm.

Again with the diagonals, Mike! I think you are too obsessed with them.
Tricky???
I don't know tricky.
Maybe I moved the wrong piece on my last move.
Seriously, Mike, I don't actually know the proper protocol for this time delayed "blindfold" chess. I may have been cheating. I have been writing down the moves, as they occur, and then reviewing them so that I can reconstruct what has happened, in my head.
If I was really blindfolded, I wouldn't be able to write down the moves, or read them.
Is this cheating?
If is it, then I will stop telling you about it in the future.

As for the Phantom video, what if we just list that as Player_A and Player_B?

PS: By the way, I didn't know that Dick and Mike's blindfold CC1-style game made it to the news!

I would like to take you up on that offer, Mike, as it would save me from certain humiliation. However, I am very curious just how long I can go before I try to move a piece that isn't there, or move one of my pieces to a square that I already occupy.
......, 4g-4e
It certainly would be much easier if we were using the old notation like, P-KR4. That way the piece would be named and also the destination square would always be specified in relation to a fixed position - the opening positions of the pieces. This would help me to keep track of the positions. And it wouldn't matter that the Fidelity CC1 coordinates were backwards.
