Anyway, this morning I made a new attempt at getting a tv image from Intelligent Chess. This time I got a picture - albeit not the kind of picture that I expected:

Best regards,
tom

Hi Tom

I couldn't quite reproduce the pretty pattern, your screen shows, on mine.
It shouldn't do that.

Using the "Flash" square facility gives white rectangular boxes. Flashing all the squares would give the same pattern but in white with the pieces displayed.

So the signal is getting to your TV. Better than mine actually. But it is the wrong signal.

The Intelligent Chess is easy to open up. Perhaps a loose wire or ribbon cable?

All the best
Mike

BTW The channel is 36 on mine. The usual UK video channel.

Hi Tom

You knew I would rise to the bait.
The Intelligent Chess webpage has been suitably updated.

http://www.chesscomputeruk.com/html/intelligent_chess.html

As for tuning in the Intelligent Chess on the television, I cannot remember what channel I used. Can I get back to you on that one? If you have access to an old TV with manual tuning and horizontal and vertical hold adjustments, that would be best.

All the best
Mike

Well Mike, again you hit the nail on the head: since I mentioned your site, it did indeed not seem improbable that it was you who would respond. But I had never expected that my message would be followed but such a nice change on your site - or was that accidental?

Maybe if I try a third time, I'll see this image which I beheld with some envy at http://www.chesscomputeruk.com :

But thanks for your encouraging response!

Best regards,

tom

Today I received Intelligent Chess, a computer that can record games on a casette tape.

In Mike's history of Scisys/Saitek I read that this machine is Scisys-manufactured. Neither the manual nor the computer itself, however, make mention of the name of Scisys. Is it certain that this is a Scisys machine?

A second point is that the machine is supposed to be able to produce a tv image. In order to test this, I turned on the computer, put the coax cable into the tv, which I switched on. Then I used the automatic search function of the tv to find channels. The television however, found nothing. Would I overlook anything?

With best regards,

tom
