I have added another model to the Tandy / Radio Shack listing. It is part number  60-2175 Tandy Computerized Chess. It has an LCD display and appears very similar to the Scisys Intercontinental Traveler. The number of units in the list is now 36. The updated file is here:

TandyRadioShack14Aug08.doc

Marko

Hi Nick,

does one have to sign up for this service, or can the list be downloaded in another way?

Best regards,

tom

Hi Tom,

The hosting service at 4shared.com is free. If you are having problems downloading the file let me know and I will email it to you.

hi Nick, if you put the 2200X next to a GK-2000 they are identical. program wise I don't know. I own all of them, but haven't got around to playing them against each other.
note: the 1850 ( 60-2199) runs only on batteries, but if you remove the little side plate. there are mounting holes for a AC adapter and on-off switch. do the later 1850's have this incorperated. what is the added 17th level for the later 1850's. I assume all 3 have the same program. I added the AC adapter to my 60-2199, easy to wire in. takes a size K radioshack, same as the 1650.

Hi Marko,
Just an observation to your list.  There absolutely no way that Master Chess should be associated with Centurion.  Centurion has a Wiki ELO of approx 2000 whereas the Master is more likely less than 1900.  It is stronger than the 2150's but weaker then the 2200X.

The box has the same dimensions as the Centurion but the comparison ends there.  The color is a dirty gray wheras the Centurion is a silver color.  The design of the Centurion is the same as the Cougar but not as wide.

The Centurion is stronger then the RS2200X therefore the Master 60-2217  is not in the same league.

I think it would be very misleading to keep the association the same as you have in your list.

Thanks and best regards

Nick

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the comments. I have removed the reference to the Centurion from the listing. The new file is at:
TandyRadioShack01Aug08.doc

To me, the Master 60-2217 and the Centurion look very similar:

I have wondered about the "Master Chess" for some time but I have not seen any ratings for it.  It seems strange that it would be fit between the 2200 and the 2150 since those two models represent different programmers.

It begs the question: Is this an upgraded version of the 2150 or a downgraded version of the 2200?

I have updated the Tandy / Radio Shack listing to match the dates in the Timeline by Michael Watters (Chesscomputeruk.com). The new file is at:

Thanks for the input Nick.

The GK2000 and the RS2200x definately seem to be the same machine - I own both.  I bought the RS2200x years ago thinking that is was a clone of the GK2100 - it most definately is not.

The RS Master Chess certainly looks like the Saitek Centurion - but I have not player with either.

Hi Marko,
The Saitek Centurion is one of the many GK2100 clones, with same bugs that you find with Cosmos, Expert Travel Chess and Cougar.

The RadioShack 2200X is not one of these.  It is very likely a GK2000 clone and not GK2100 (Centurion etc).  If it were a GK2100 clone then it would be as strong as the RS2250XL which is a close relative in playing strength to the GK2100 clones.  The RS2200X is not as strong as the RS2250XL.

ps... As far as the Master Chess from Radioshack, I think it is weaker then the RS2200X or a GK2000 Clone, therefore it is probably something else.

All the best

Nick

I am looking for information about the Radio Shack "Master Chess Computer" - not the RS Master 2250.  They were produced at about the same time - maybe the Master Chess Computer was slightly newer.

It was obviously made by Saitek and resembles the RS2200x (I have one)  and Saitek Models of the same era.

Is it a clone of a Saitek model?  If so, then which one.

Hi Zardoz,

The Radio Shack Master Chess, part number 60-2217, was produced in 1998. I believe it is a clone of the Saitek Centurion (also made in 1998). If you find out for sure please let me know.

Best regards,
Marko

Thanks Marko!  That makes sense.  There have been a couple of them for sale on ebay - in fact there is one that can be bid on right now.
