Most chess computers that want AC, can also be powered with a DC adaptor, but then it is often needed to use a higher voltage (12V instead of 9V)

yes, I remember having read another post from you indicating this but I haven't been lucky so far...
but I did not remember the higher voltage requirement and this can be the reason of my failure.
Anyway, it is not too hard to find a universal AC adapter and the one I got has resurrected my ARB.

Best regards,
Alain

I bought a Connie 2.0 recently and it came without a power supply.  I have a universal one with different settings for voltages and different connectors, and I know the voltage needed but I am not sure of the polarity of the inside and outside of the connector.  Can anyone help?

there is no polarity... because the Constellation, as old Novag computers, wants alternative supply (AC), not continuous (DC) (sorry, these are basic translations of French words, I am not sure they make sense in English).
So I guess that you will need to find another universal adapter as I think that such adapters are either AC or DC.

Best regards,
Alain

PS : I spent more than a year thinking my Constellation Forte was broken because I used a DC adapter... and with the right adapter, it works like a charm

Most chess computers that want AC, can also be powered with a DC adaptor, but then it is often needed to use a higher voltage (12V instead of 9V)

I have a Super Forte, that is working perfect with 12V DC. With 9V its display is very dim and hard to read...

Additionally, the old Novag computers really need adaptors with at least 800mA (as can be seen at the sticker on the bottomside). I tried a Constellation Forte with 500mA and it did not work...

best regards,
Robert

I am using it on batteries, and it works, but not reliably.  When I power it up it often works, but at times it will light several coordinate light along the sides of the board but will not respond.  When it turns on properly I can play a full game, but other times I have to turn it on and off dozens of times in order to get it to start properly.  Could this simply be dirty contacts associated with the power supply?  If so has anyone opened one of these and is it easy and are there any tricks I need to know?

Thanks in advance,
Steve
