while we are on the subject of other countries, when I go to e-bay Germany I can't look at any items. ebay asks me to login, but my user and password won't take. do you have to register seperatly for every country in Europe to see the auuctions? I am in USA.  Tony

well, no, because the flag illustrates the manual's language and not the sender's nationality (in this case, this would still be the French flag the leader one because I provided a lot of manuals and Bobosse is one of the most active contributors now).

And as a French, I would be troubled if I found somewhere the "French Language" illustrated by another flag than the French one

But ok, I am not a linguist and cannot really tell which can revendicate now the most influence on English language.

I guess that one of the next updates of the site will be a dynamic choice of the English manual flag based on the settings of the user's browser

Best regards,
Alain

Alain

That is very cunning. The more manuals the better.
And there was me thinking that everyone knew the flag was there to help find the manual that met their language needs best.

According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica on the subject of language it says :-
United States of America - Official Language - None.

As for the US contribution to the English language, if any, I have to remember this is an American message board, and they are such wonderful friends and hosts.

If I hold you to your words then that would mean you would post the Yugoslav flag ! (Serbian).
...If you mean what you say then I would have great incentive to see the Serbian Flag posted on all those manuals

Hi Alain,

I think for the sake of World Peace  maybe British Flag gets used for British made computer and American Flag gets used for American made chess computer!!

Hi Nick
well that could never work as i think then there would be no Union Jacks flying in Alains site
unless of course we still consider the US (Excalibur,Fidelity,Applied Concepts/Chafitz/Destiny) and Ireland(Conchess) as colonies of England

i think the better scale would be the programmers home country
then the UK would have at least a few flags flying

Regards from the home country that invented the dedicated chess computer

Hi Steve,
Well they would be entitled to a Flag with White & Allcock and of course Chess King (I think

Ah that reminds me I received my Westrak the other day from the same famous British Collector (Alain's famous British Collector) I think, and I don't know what to write about this machine.  Does anyone have information about Westrak?  The machine itself is quite different with those huge steel pegs that are used for the sensory operation.  It is quite an interesting machine.  I know it is made in Hong Kong in 1985 (I think) but that is all that I know about it.

Humming to Dire Straits regards...
Nick

This change had been suggested to me a long time ago by a famous collector...

And with the numerous manuals he sent me recently, I really had to do it

So if you want the US flag to come back, you know what you have to do

Looking for every way to augment my manual collection regards
Alain

Hi Alain,

If I hold you to your words then that would mean you would post the Yugoslav flag ! (Serbian).

Since my parents originally come from there

If you mean what you say then I would have great incentive to see the Serbian Flag posted on all those manuals

All the best

Nick

Hi Alain,

I see that you have changed the Flag to British for the English chess instructions

You have to be careful that you don't start a war

I think for the sake of World Peace  maybe British Flag gets used for British made computer and American Flag gets used for American made chess computer!!  And..... Hong Kong for all the rest of them

I am just joking with you by the way I just thought it was humerous that you changed the Flags when I looked today.

All the best

Nick
