This is really sad news. Tom, I mean "Overtom", was the other "Tom" here and I remember that I have teased him once over this. Tom took the best photos on chesscomputers I've ever seen and on one occasion he showed me the secret here in this forum, how he made them.

Regards  Tom

Sad day.

I enjoyed his nice stories about him,  his family, his holiday and so many little anecdotic stories in the middle of the chess site.

He really put a lot of humanity in his website - and it's not obvious when the main subject is "electronic machines".

He was also very good in photography.

We miss you, Tom.

This is such sad news, although I didn't know him I could tell he had great personality. As mentioned below do visit his humour page, I often have a visit if I'm in need of cheering up. I have one item purchased from him some years ago - a Fidelity CC8, I'll always think of him when I play this machine.

            With condolences to his family

I've forgotten the number of times I have played through Tom's example chess computer games against Fritz. His latest and unfortunately now his last was with the Excalibur Einstein touch screen. This is what I liked about Tom, he always bought all the lower end chess computers and provided us with those interesting weak games.
The computer chess community has lost a good member.

He was one of the few collectors, who was dedicated to the weak computers. His website was filled with many beautiful pictures and information and i often read his blog. Much effort for a single person!

This forum will never be the same without him!

My deepest condolences to his family...

This hit me really hard! I was finally going to have a chance to meet gentle Tom in just a few months and he, kind as always, was already teasing me with the promise of a great Dutch meal and the chance to see his collection.

When he sent me the message saying that he might not be there when I make it to Amsterdam I had all kinds of feelings at the same time. Right now I feel not only sorrow but anger at this terrible enemy that is death which is robbing us of the company of great people like Tom.

In the past couple of months it was hard to hold tears (men don't cry right?) as I read his messages and even while he was going to the hospital and not getting good news from the doctors he still had something positive to say at the end and to show concern for me and my wife, who really couldn't hold her tears as I was briefing her on what was going on.

I find it very interesting that I started admiring Tom because of his collection and his site and then I realized that as the years went by, the contents of our emails (which I very much treasure) have little to nothing to do with chess computers! He was just a master with words and just the kind of friend that you can't help but feel like hugging.
His personality was so rich that we were able to talk about a wide variety of subjects and in each one of them his personality could be detected in every sentence.

Saying that we will miss him seems cliche but I can't find other words to express that. He was the kind of person that rekindles your faith in humanity when you see how low and how despicable some humans can be.

When it came to chess computers I think he was a jack of all trades. Great collector, coder, researcher, tester, organizer and you can see in his posts his passion for the hobby that has been the the bond of union for chess computer enthusiasts in forum like ours.

I pray for his family, especially his wife who, in Tom's own words, has been an angel and great source of support for him.

I'm so very sorry that I after a long period of absence form the forum this has to be the post that I have to share with you at this time.

Tom was truly one of the worlds premiere collectors
his collection was only surpassed by his personality which was larger then life
a true lover of our hobby  it was a real treat to read his posts which were both humorous and interesting at the same time
this is a very sad day for all collectors

my deepest regrets to his  family
May He Rest In Peace Forever Regards
Steve
