Thank you both for the suggestions.  It seems the Mephisto pieces will be a good avenue to pursue.  No doubt they will have a nicer fit and finish than anything I might craft together with a dremel tool and some glue.

It'll be fun to soon be able to lose a few games to the Diablo.  :-)

Replacement pieces are available by
https://www.schachversand.de/startneue2.htm

It's in Germany.

Just go to online shop / Computer / Mephisto Spare parts and you have Mephisto Exclusive pieces for 55 euros.

Another solution is to contact some indian seller on ebay and ask for magnetic pieces. try "houseofjacques".

And I've gleaned from the posts I've read that I seem to have stumbled into a major bargain as she cost me only $20 (love a good bargain!).

Wow, a Diablo for just $20?? That's the best bargain about chess computers ever! (even better than Dick Schneider's $15 for his CC1)

Most importantly though is that she didn't come with her pieces.  I'm sure finding the originals truly is the impossible dream but I sure would like to find something worthy of this beautifully made chess board.

You could take pieces of a Mephisto Exclusive board. I tried it with a Super Expert (same board as the Diablo) and it worked perfectly!

But i'm afraid, they will cost more than your Diablo!

you could even build your own; buy a standard set of pieces that you like and 32 neodymium magnets (best fitting size should be 10mm diameter and 1mm thick)

But that's a whole lotta work (cutting the botton of the pieces to make the magnets fitting nicely, glueing them in together with a felt (you surely don't want to scratch the surface of your Diablo)

Only recommended for a passionate handcrafter!

best regards,
Robert

Hi folks.  I've been enjoying looking through this forum for the last few days in search of all the information I can find on my latest thrift store conquest, a NovaG Diablo 68000.  Already the experience has been very interesting and helpful.  I found a manual for her which I thought was going to be just about impossible to locate, merci Alain.  And I've gleaned from the posts I've read that I seem to have stumbled into a major bargain as she cost me only $20 (love a good bargain!).

And although she is in very fine condition I'm afraid I only got the board itself.  No power supply was included, though a 9V AC supply for an answering machine seems to work nicely.  Most importantly though is that she didn't come with her pieces.  I'm sure finding the originals truly is the impossible dream but I sure would like to find something worthy of this beautifully made chess board.  Also important of course is that they have magnets sufficiently powerful enough to register on the board (I tried some from a Chess Challenger and the Diablo couldn't sense them).  So I was hoping to gather a few suggestions from the members as to possible sources for suitable replacements?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken
