there must be hundreds or thousands of Boris's. In Germany there seem to have been various upgrades and turbo kits available. Robert has an upgraded Fidelity Elite Avant Garde Version 11 which I think was upgraded from standard by Wilfried Bucke. Maybe we should ask Robert if his V11 is worth more than the standard machine and how much?

In general, I'm not a friend of tuned chess computers with one exception: there must be at least a little number of them manufactured in series by the original manufacturer (i.e. Monte Carlo IV L.E.) or a third company/person (like Resurrection, V11 or Schaetzle&Bsteh-TK's)

My V11 was a normal Elite AS 3.2 Mhz; as this is not a real rare computer, i had no problem with sending it to Mr. Bucke. And now this is a real hammer  with one of the most interesting chess-programs that ever were written!

Regarding strength I see it in one line with Tasc R30, Resurrection, London/Genius 68030.

The costs were about 1300 Euros.

Btw.: I think, a V10 in original condition should be more worth than this (but I'm not sure; i've never seen one for sale)

And as there was no chance to get a V10 (at least for an affordable price!), i decided to get a V11!

And additionally: mine plays better!

best regards,
Robert

Now I know you know me better than that Ismenio.

I think this solar powered Boris is one of the most amusing machines to come up on Ebay. Combine that with the seller last time "legqueen", me living in a solar house and being interested from that point of view and it was difficult not to bid. But I managed it.

Since that I have bought a little solar panel kit which charges a 9 volt battery and I intend to do some experiments when I have some time in the autumn.

I guess you all probably saw it. But I have a question. How do you personally see a modified computer? The other day there was a show on the History Channel about cars and some of them were actually more valuable because of some changes done to them. Would that be true when we talk about the computers, maybe some models?

I guess everybody has an opinion about this. What do you think?

Mike

PS  There is, of course, a perfectly standard solar powered chess computer :-

I have not seen one myself. Yet

Mike,

You probably forgot about this! But Luis just sent me an email a few days ago saying that this Boris in fact works fine with this "hack". Since I haven't had a chance to check eBay in a while (my bank account was happy with that!) I was just browsing around quickly and found out that he's selling it!!:

I asked him Mike, will post a reply here when I get it.

Are you thinking about modifying yours? I'd suggest a hamster-powered project!

Did Luis say whether the battery charger and solar charger work. If not is he going to try to get them to work?

The original idea to do this is very funny.

I thought about that! Now I have confirmation!
Wow, you do have a sharp mind.

I found the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=40855&item=5173981531&rd=1

I just did a search on this forum! Another reason why I like it. Even though it's kind of new, I can already start searching and finding some interesting posts!

That's the thread I found it on:

PS: Off topic: I was, once again, blown away by the numbers on Dick's records collection! Still waiting for www.DickSchneiders.com to browse them

This is Leg-Queen's solar Boris.

I cannot find the link to the Ebay page. But I remember it well.

I got these pictures form a collector who gave me the OK to share them. It's a modified BORIS. It uses a battery instead of the power adapter.
