Thanks .  And was the previously strongest the Super Constellation (1984) ?

(appart from Forte A, I mean)

Actually there was the Constellation Expert (a nice wood board magnetic sensor set) which was between the SuperConnie and the Forte line (it is considered a variant of the Forte program but played weaker than even the Forte A.  I am not sure why or what the differences in the code was that accounts for this weakness.

The Constellation Expert has the enhanced Superconstellation Program in it.
I think in the Superconny machine it is 56 KByte size,
in the Expert machine it is 64 KByte.

Also the superconny runs with 4 mhz, while there are expert machines running with 5,6 mhz. even overclocked 7 mhz versions can be found.

it is said the expert has more PSH-algorithms than the Superconny.
But i would say the superconny is stronger in normal games, while the expert is stronger in tactical test suites due to this fact.

there is a book by Mr. Yazgac "Schachcomputer was sie wirklich können" where you can pretty much study the differences between Forte versions, Superconny and Expert because he has tested them in 75 positions and 13 test-games.

a very good book if you want to study differences between Superconstellation / Expert and Forte A/B

Thanks for this highly interesting article.  Very sentimental,  made me quite sad.  Strange feeling, reading his enthusiasm while knowing what the future would hold.  Can you tell me what the top of the range (in strength) Novag was at the time? (1985-86)  Thanks

Probably the Forte B which was released in 1986.

PS: However what interested me the most was Mr Koppen's 43 varieties of  sausage!  :-))

Hi
I have today, unfortunately received news from the new owners of Novag that there won't be any new models for 2010.
If your interested in the 'Good Old Days' of Novag, have a read of the following interview with Novag's founder Peter Auge when things where very different. There's a very interesting statement he makes about an upgrade to the Adversary.
