Thanks for the links, Thorsten.
I've asked myself for ages, where do they get the forums from?
I'll have a closer look at that later.

Regards,  Tom

(I'm afraid your links didn't work correctly at this moment ...)

Well.... if all members from schachcomputer.info come here in March... may be the chess computer traders will do so too ?

Best regards,
Alain
PS : I am just joking... I am sad that schachcomputer.info is closed and I hope that Micha will find a solution and reopen it.

Hi,

I think that the starting point is the death of "Suche und Biete" forum some time ago : I usually don't read the articles in schachcomputer.info's forum (German is too difficult for me) but check the thread subjects every day and I have seen the trading theads appear and become more and more important once "Suche und Biete" was closed.

Best regards,
Alain

You are right Alain.  Micha, the owner supported the people from the other Schachcomputer site by trying to incorporate their needs and wishes into Schachcomputer.Info.

I think a solution might be to just have an external link to a Suche/Biete Forum at Schachcompter.Info but not have it as part of the Schachcomputer.Info Forum itself.

But, I think Micha would not like to Moderate such a Forum since it conflicts with his main beliefs.  Therefore, for this to work, one of the other Moderators who might be interested in such a service might have to step up and Moderate it.

The Suche/Biete Forum worked in the Past because itwas independent of any Chess discussion Forums.

Micha does not like to see people fight, rip each other off or profiteer at the expense of other Members  I think those are basically the things that irritate him a lot.

Best regards

Nick

Hi Alain,

interesting observation, there might be some truth in it.
But a lot of people posted their offers on both sites.
At Kurt´s site everybody could offer and sell, but at .info there were restrictions. You had to register and you had to be "approved" by a moderator to be allowed to offer chess computers for sale.

Best wishes

If one person pays for the site, then they get to set the rules.case closed. As for buying and selling, I don't have a problem with person A saying they have something to sell and contact them off the forum to work out the details privately by e-mail or phone or whatever. I think this way it keeps the transactions off the forum.  Tony

I was very sad about the shut down of this forum but i think the owner is right. If  he created the forum for a purpose that is not for selling or buying chess computers we all must respect this, and if he  will allow this selling and buying process it must be under rules that are alike in the common way of this type of market.

hope .info will be back regards

Yes, Micha, the owner of Schachcomputer.info pays the whole site inclusively server, software etc., not mentioning the time he invests in all of this, without demanding any pay from users, even if they were trading in small measures.

But as it seems, some of them enlargened their businesses, so to speak, and traded via Micha's site instead of ebay, where they have to pay charges.

Another rather annoying point was that e.g. seller A had made a firm agreement with a buyer A. But at the moment another person came in-between with a higher offer, the agreement was withdrawn by seller A with the incredible excuse that a higher offer had been given in. Trade cannot work like this. A buyer must be able to trust the given word. And a seller must be able to resist those temptations caused by higher offers given too late. An agreement is an agreement and must not be broken.

I wouldn't allow things like that on my site as well.

Regards,  Tom

Tom,

I think this at least a part of the truth behind it.
Schachcomputer.info always has been a private site with no commercial interests at all.
The costs of the provider have always been payed by one person.
In the past months a lot of people used the forums to buy and sell computers, or to discuss chess computers offered for sale on ebay.
This apparently has annoyed the owner of the site whose main focus always has been on giving a platform for information and discussion about dedicated machines.
What he NOT wanted was a cheaper version of ebay.

Understandable, isn´t it?

Regards,

Christian

I think it'll be back at the latest by 1 April (All fool's day!?Does this have a meaning in these circumstances? I don't know.). I as an everyday's visitor of the site didn't see too much of the alleged quarrels behind the scenes.

My interests lie mainly in simple and relatively easy chess problems which I can set up on my computer and play them there, hoping my chesscomputer can help understand a bit better. And he does.

Buying- and selling- posts I use to skip. What about buying and selling here? Do you get annoyed by that? Does the keeper of this site feel abused? Or is this site for free? The keeper of the schachcomputer.info-site has to pay to the provider and felt being abused by those who used his site for their businesses.

I never really took part in the forum, because i had alot of trouble with the translations of the comments, but the info sections always translated fine. I use alta-vista. I will dearly miss  it and hope it makes a comeback

It's really a GREAT site, with much info on it
I personally did get anoyed the latest time about some discusions
In mine eyes ,not worth it at all
But there are many different people on this world
The main is for guys who love the old dedicated chesscomputers
To talk on a nice level and exhange some experience about our baby's
Also the games(tournaments) many people play is very interesting

I really hope not that i would be the latest online WC

I hope all people included myself put the shoulders under it after the restart, and for god sake, act normal

Well enough said about it
Well Alain, i do not write here often, but everyday i look here as well mine friend, and also this is a great site
See u in Saints,R40 power on the move

Kind regards from Holland

Hi,

after Kurt's forum was slowly fading away, the abrupt closing of .info is the second german forum we'll miss . Of course there is the chance of a restart in April (and I hope so). Let's wait and play chess .

Tony,

Apparently there was trouble between forum members behind the scenes and in the forum as well.
The site owner decided to close site and forum to give everybody a break.
If things go well .info will be re-opened on april 1st.

Christian
