Thanks for your response. I found the problem. I just simply forgot to include the kings as part of setting up the position.
Terrific Website!

The GK2000 has a feature that allows you to clear the board and add pieces to the board so you can set up interesting positions. I'm able to set up positions but I'm not able to get a response from the computer after pressing enter. The Auto Answer feature doesn't work either.
Are batteries needed to get the computer to play after setting a position?

Hi Happy, I can tell you that you  do not need batteries in
addition to the power adaptor.
I dont have the GK2000 but I do have the Radio Shack
2200X, which is also the GK2000 by Franz Morsch.
You succeeded in setting up a position, it seems. Then
you must press "clear" to make it ready to process.Only
then do you press "enter" to start it thinking.
Are you pressing "enter" instead of "clear"?
hope this helps,
all the best
Larry
PS check out:http://www.zanchetta.net/echecs/
you will find a user manual there, but it is in German. You
may be able to translate it.
