It's okay, I found the answer.  The switch is a contrast control.

Hi, I have a Scisys Mark V which I got some time ago from E-bay.  However, I have been wondering about the two position button marked LCD.  When I switch it from one setting to the other, it looks to me that it changes the contrast slightly, but  the LCD backlights remain on all the time regardless of the switch position.  Can someone tell me if this is correct behavior, or should the LCD switch be turning the backlighting on and off?  Thanks.
