Hi Tony
Unfortunately I can't remember the answer to either of your questions
What I do remember is that if you lived in Europe and you wanted the upgraded software you had to send your Citrine to Spain!!
I upgraded it myself by connecting the Citrine to the Novag server that held the new program. It was quite a long winded process that didn't work first time as the Novag software engineer emailed me the wrong proceedure and just wiped the original program and didn't continue to download the new one.
One thing I do remember from looking at the code was the software version was called WChess (then a few numbers). Obviously Kittinger code from ten years ago but modified recently by Novag's own software engineers.

Hi
I think they are referring to the opening book software update that came with the Version 3 release.
Version 1 was the old Novag Universal Chess Board with the Citrine program that included the opening book bugs.
Version 2 was a new production run but this time minus the Universal Chess Board logo but still had the bugs.
Version 3 was released after Novag rewrote part of the opening book to remove the bugs.
Hope this helps.

I have modified one of the 1st citrines and one of the so called  "NEW" citrines. same workmanship inside and out. 1/32 inch veneer used on both, very cheap. the specs. in the manuals remain the same such as program size, opening book etc. the only difference is the new manual now references the new owners of novag. same machines as far as I can see. regards, tony

My understanding is that it was actually the Obsidian program with some additional opening book depth and lines.

Hello

At least one UK dealer's entry for it suggests the cabinet quality has been 'recently improved' not sure if that was the only reason to brand it the new one.

first, why is the Citrine now advertised as the "NEW" Citrine? The specs. have not changed as far as I know. Chess USA thought a bug had been fixed, but I know of none. any thoughts on this?  2nd. I suspect the "Star Opal" and "Carnelian II" have the same program , true?
