The only other model that might have this issue ( as I understand it ) is the Diamond as they are the same computer but in a different case. I can work around this issue and the only draw back is that ( when using the AT levels )  I am not sure if the computing times are accurate or not. However .... overall it isn't a major detractor from the games play and I still enjoy it's playing style and find it to be hugely different from the Morsch programs ! Thanks for your input and best regards ....    Hondo

hondo, don't have access to manual, but novag got around that problem with the obsidian by giving you a ton of tournement levels so you have many ave. times per move. works pretty well ,but it really isn't ave. per move per say. if the computer gets in time trouble it will shorten its time to compensate. in ave time per move this will never happen. if you play 2 comps. against each other. one at 40 in 40 min. and the other at 1 min average per move, it's not the same. I wonder how many different models have this bug beside saphire and obsidian?  regards, tony

Hi Tony,
Their "fix" does not work as they describe the procedure. They tell you to correct this issue in setting the AT time level by using the USER PROGRAMMABLE TIME CONTROL FEATURE and then "you have to set the number of moves to 1 ".  This can't be done within this game program and they even say this just a few pages further on that in this mode there is no way to set the # of moves !!  So at this point if I am playing the game I get some really strange happenings after a few moves so I use it in a different mode. If you have the manual take a look and you will see what I am talking about.  Regards    Hondo

Hondo, what is their alternative fix? is it something like 40 in 10 min, 40 in 15 min. etc. if so that should do it.  regards, tony

Hi All,
I recently acquired an early model ( 1994- I believe ) Sapphire and I am looking for information and hopefully a solution to the "mistake in the program " that affects the setting of the average time level ( AT ).
I encountered this error and tried to use their alternative time control fix and found that this will not work either and am now without a fix at all. Any one who knows this computer and is familar with this issue and can provide me with some insight and info as to how to resolve or work around this issue ....  I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.... Hondo
