Hi Ruud! Congratulations on your project and the first deliveries!

You should know that the Resurrection page on the site has been getting a lot of hits these past few days. Also, could you comment about availability and future orders?
I had questions asked about that. Also, would you be OK in handling inquiries in Portuguese? Let me know if you need help with that.

Best Regards,

Ismenio

Hi there to all users of this forum. I had a long weekend delivering the modules with my wife. Hope you will enjoy playing and hope also you will bear in mind that there could be bugs which have to be solved.

You will receive the package soon, as will the other buyers who did not receive it this weekend. UPS will collect the packages at my home today.

Greeting
Ruud Martin
Hi Ruud

Many thanks for your message and email. It is good to hear that I can join in the fun soon.

As you know there are a few of the "Dirty Dozen" that post messages here - Martin, Christian, myself and Robert Weck has been known to drop in. So this should be one of the best places for discussion about your Brainchild. I shall be posting Resurrection games with other chess computers - Tasc R30, Mephisto Genius London, Renaissance Sparc, Pocket Fritz 2 etc anything that can give it a game. Let us know if you have any opinions about how we go about testing.

All the best for now
Mike

Guys,

I have not worked for TASC though i would have enjoyed it a lott.
I think that this (R30/R40) is probably the best chess computer ever released and that this is probably the only chess computer who can challenge my Resurrection succesfully. But this is just a matter of time.

I hope other chess programmers will convert their programs to my module, and  i am sure that in time the ELO rating of the Resurrection will be at the top of the 'dedicated' chess computer lists.

greetings,
Ruud Martin

I know by face the 6th guy from Munich, his name was Brunner but I am not sure anymore.
Ruud told me also of a guy callled Victor Rawik? Must be Austrian...

Well weŽll find out who are the rest, I am sure.

50% is not bad for a start, isnŽt it?

P.S. Better to neglect you computers than your wife...they do not strike back!
Christian

The cable was Ł1.47 and the postage 60 pence. Peanuts compared with the interface you gave me. You are still way way ahead.

Victor Rawik is "frosch" from Vienna who has outbidding me on Ebay down to a fine art. See here:-

Difficult to compare the wife with a chess computer. A Novag Robot could give you a nasty bruise but the wife knows where to aim.

I have neglected the chess computers for a while, so have still to try the Smartboard again.

I only know five of the Dirty Dozen so far - Yourself, Martin, Robert Weck, Steve Blincoe and I. If this is the Filthy Five. Who are the Magnificent Seven?

The cable is on its way. Should arrive Thursday or Friday.

All the best

Hey Mike,

another one of the Ždirty dozenŽ (I like that  ) is Michael Voelschow, the host of schachcomputer.info. There must be some Austrian too but it's not Kurt.

Sherlock Holmes Regards,
Martin

P.S. Played another game this morning (against Risc II) and Resurrection won in a more or less convincing way with white. Hope I can play another game tonight but then is enough for this week.

Mike,

you should have stayed in Yorkshire riding some more weeks since I talked to Ruud and we both agreed that you should wait some more weeks to learn humility

Not I am joking. Hope you get yours soon.

I agree with Martin that much will depend on the experiances of the dirty dozen...

WeŽll see...I am already anticipating the active graphical display. And I also hope that theDeepSjeng will be availabe soon...but one thing at a time.

All the best!

Christian

P.S. Since you are still waiting for the Resurrection, maybe you found some time for connecting one of your Smartboards?
Christian

You would not find it difficult to find someone to agree with you on the humility. So I must take my punishment.

Hi Mike,

thank you.

Maybe I should let it play more games against the R30 instead of changin the opponent? (intended to switch over to Risc II now). Hmm, have to sleep over it...

Re the 12, well... I think it also depends on the experience of this gang if there will be more interest in Ruuds astonishing achievement. We'll see...

Heading towards the Pillows Regards,

Martin and Christian

Congatulations on having the strongest dedicated chess computers on the planet.

Sadly I must be patient myself.

Boys it is hard to take. Luckily I have been away this weekend, horse racing in the far north, Yorkshire that is. Otherwise I would have succumbed to a nasty attack of jealousy by now. Ruud has not even contacted me about a delivery so I know I have some time more to wait.

Only 12 on board so far is a concern, and a surprise.

Thanks for the games Martin I shall go through them tomorrow. Don't let that Tasc get too big a start on the Resurrection.

All the best
Mike

Hi all,

just a short note. Ruud seems to have worked for Tasc or at least has a certain affinity to that company. He told me that my R30 (the one I bought from him) has once won the Dutch computer chess championship from which I conclude the above.

Alan, Ismenio: As far as I know there will be only a max of 25 Resurrection units. I guess Saitek didn't allow Ruud to make more of them. So if you still want one, maybe the opportunity won't last forever...

- How many levels of play do you have and what kind of setup to you have for them? (i.e., can you tweak the response time?)

There are many levels but not infinitely many. There are time/moves (avg), time/moves (exact), moves/time, time/all, ply and analysis levels.

- How easy is it to switch between the two programs? (When you mentioned changing modules, are you talking about the current Mephisto module you have and the Resurrection?)

Two programs? At the moment there seems to be only the Ruffian program (if I don't overlook something). Re changing the modules: if you want to use a different board (Exclusive vs Munich and so on), you also have to put the third card into that board which is not very easy. But I managed it after fiddling a little bit so I think you all would be able to do that without any problem as well. Other Mephisto modules have nothing to do with that point.

- Does the module gets warm after you play for some time or is it just like a regular Mephisto one?

No temperature problems at all.

- Is the manual only in German?

The module speaks also English, so I guess there will be also an Eglish manual, although I possess only the German version.

Past Midnight Regards,
Martin

You're right Alain. That's what I had in mind. That you, Martin and Christian had different toys to play with this weekend.

I also didn't order a Resurrection. I'm not a strong player and would not be using the unit that much, so I decided to focus more on other items for now.

So we have 12 brave folks on this project! I give them and Ruud all the credit! The ones I know of are: Martin, Christian, Steve and Mike. Plus the fellow that got it at the same time Christian did. I wonder who the others are.

By the way, did Ruud work for Tasc, H&G or some other company? I wonder how he got all that knowledge.

unfortunately, I haven't ordered a Resurrection I think Ismenio was thinking about the Munich Risc I got yesterday (unless there is another collection named Alain  )... which is already too string for me

Martin: Great pictures! I'll use them! They complement the ones you had before + the ones from Christian perfectly!

Many thanks and enjoy your Resurrection!

Christian, congrats to your Resurrection too!

I've posted a short message in a German forum:
http://www.schachcomputer.info/forum/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=476

Unfortunately I don't have much time to translate at the moment but maybe babelfish will help a tad.

As Christian already said, it's still a sort of development stage, so some minor flaws will probably be there, which we'll hopefully find out soon. I played four games (I'll attach them here at the end too) and have to say that the module is very good playable. The only thing one is not used to is the booting time at the beginning (ca. 20 sec.) and the slower response time to the buttons (you have to hold them down a little bit). But this is nothing too disturbing. Another point is that if you want to change the modules and put them ie into a different board you also have to put a small card without a casing into the third slot which is not very easy. If you have no experience you have to fiddle around to hit the right spot. Ruud said this third one is necessary due to stability reasons; indeed I tried it without and Resurrection didn't get beyond the booting point -- the "Phoenix starting" text was frozen on the display. This is also the reason why you can't use the dummy casing for the third slot. However with this card it played well even in the modular board (see also pics below).

Ismenio: Yes, of course you can use my pics for your page if you like, no problem.
