As promised, more news on this project!

I got more feedback from them. They are a small robotic company in Brazil working with educational kits but also some industrial projects it seems.

They finished the project in August 2004 but sales didn't take off, probably because of the high price: US$ 1,700.00! Well even at that level, believe me or not I'm tempted to try to get one (thank God my wife is not reading this!) but not right now. Actually, the information is not even on their website! I guess that's an indicator of the level of interest

The good news is that they can build units upon request and here's more details I got from them. The robot comes with a tournament size board and the computer has optical recognition of the board so it knows what pieces the human moves. They want to try to sell prototypes to finance the project. Hopefully that will happen and the price will go down.

The system needs a PC with a parallel port (LPT) an d Win9X. I'm asking them about USB and WindowsXP as well as details on the software. It takes them 40 days to build one unit.

Well, again, let me know if there's any interest in this. I can also see if I can get them to come over here to chat with us if anyone want to talk to them directly. Just let me know.

Robotic Regards,

Ismenio

PS: Will catch up with all you guys later. Got to work on some updates now

Hurray! The project isn't dead! I got a teaser video from the team working on this project. It's really quick and in very low resolution but that was enough to keep my hopes high!

That's all the info I have for now. Like I promised, I'll post updates here. Just out of curiosity, let me know if you have interest in this, either by replying to this post or sending me an email. If I can get a headcount maybe I can mention this to those folks and let me know there are people interested in this.

Me two Dick! Let's just hope this isn't another doomed project that will get me frustrated again.

Again, I'll post details as soon as I get them.

PS: How would you feel about some competition on that Phantom?

I would really like to have some competition on it, since it isn't an Eyeball, like I first suspected.  The color is the same as my Eyeball, and so I thought the seller was simply wrong and that it had the wrong manual with it.  I asked about the button descriptions, and it is just a 6100.  So I would love to have somebody bid over me.

Folks, this may be exciting news for those who like robotic chess! There's a new project from a guy who is looking for someone who sponsor the development of a robotic chess. This one with an arm. This is NOT the other project I'm also keeping an eye on, from India.

I am still trying to get the details and I don't know the current status but when I came across this information I just couldn't keep it a secret! So, stay tuned!

Bender Regards,

Ismenio
