Do you have any suggestions about how I can turn off the music?  I think I have been brain-washed!  I can't even concentrate on a chess game without something from the Lion King or The Little Mermaid interfering.

Dick,

you need an ear protection device which generates complimentary sounds...in this way the waves add up to a zero line...in the military we tried these...but there were still in development phase then.

It is only mathematics...like a sinus und cosinus curve...if you add them together you get: NOTHING

This is how this ear protection device was supposed to work: analyse the sound which comes in, generate a "negative" sound and so in your ear the postive (=original disney song) and the negative add up to zero...

Well I do not know if something is already availabe for the free market, but if you should get one!!!

Christian

Christian,

I do remember something about this technology even way back in the late 1960's, when I was in the US Air Force.

However, where the heck would anybody find a "negative" Disney song to use to offset what is tormenting me?    They are all so sweet and sickenly positive.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I know exactly what you mean, Mike.  I have been humming Disney songs all week.  If my co-workers didn't think I was dotty when I was pointing at imaginary chess pieces in the air, during that game, then they are certainly aware of it now.

I think Areil is hot!!

It is many years since we went to EuroDisney, Paris but I really loved the Pirates ride and whistled the tune for ages afterwards.

Don't try to fight it. Get an Intelligent Chess machine on Ebay then you can play tapes while you are playing it at chess and sing along as you beat it.

My dubious award though goes to the aforementioned Excalibur LCD Chess for the Most Outrageous Claim On A Box Award.

Well, If we are giving ourselves "titles" then I deserve the "worst blindfold chess player using CC1 coordinates" title.

Dick

You have strong competition for that title. I had to give up in the end because I woke up several times in the night obsessed with that damn game. It wouldn't go away.

Blindfold chess is OK but I wouldn't recommend anyone to play blindfold correspondence chess.

What about "worst poster"? In this way we cannot insult our machines unless there is one machine able to post, which is not the case at my knowledge...

And as I read the text I just wrote I would be very close to getting this title and so no other poster would be insulted either

PS To Christian: How dare you take my other title?

Ismenio,

sorry for that. But one has to be the best at least at one thing

What about "worst display": I am sure the Star Sapphire will be a hot candidate for this...

This is just for fun! Try to nominate or add a category for a dubious achievement award here. I'll just start off with some categories. The idea is not really to put down anyone but rather to honestly rate our machines, even the ones we love the most, in something we really think they're not so good at

- Worst program: CC1
- Worst interface: Conchess
- Ugliest: ?
- Most likely to break: Conchess?
- The one with the most annoying feature: Excalibur models with “sound effects”

I'll let someone else do the “best” award list

Best,

Ismenio

PS: Worst collector: Ismenio! Ha! Nobody can take away my title!!!
