Welcome Ginsters!

I think that was a good price! I know some collectors whou would probably pay almost that much just for the packaging and the dust cover (not me though, I think!)

Phantoms are definitely on the top of my list! You should take a look at the thread "Phantomholics Anonymous" that Mike started:
http://users.boardnation.com/~chesscomputers/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=176

Hope to see you getting more and more of these wonderful machines! Please share with us what you get!

As for help, I've found out that the folks here are very helpful in helping you get everything from manuals to pricing information and even spare parts.

Best regards,

Ismenio

Welcome ginsters

That is a good deal. It is difficult to find Milton Bradleys with the dust cover and original boxes etc. I think yours is an MB Milton from Germany? I have the listing here. 303 Euros sold on 19th July?

The Milton Bradley robots came in 3 forms the only real differences being the name on the machine and the manuals. The MB Milton was sold in Germany, the MB Grandmaster sold in USA and the MB Phantom sold mainly in the UK. Of the 3 the Phantom seems to be the least common. Depending on your definition it is not particularly rare, there must be a dozen a year sold on Ebay. But it does make Kurt Kisperts "Rarities" list :-

Welcome to the hobby. With you getting a mint MB, first go, with dust cover, box, manual etc it sounds like you could give us a few tips and pointers rather than the other way around. Amongst all the banter on this forum there are a few pearls of wisdom in the old threads. There's a search facility to help find stuff if it is there.

All the best
Mike

Hi Everyone,

I am new to collecting chess computers, got a few so far. I really wanted a phantom to kickstart my collection.

I bought a Milton Bradley Phantom off ebay. It came today and it is fantastic condition, all in the original packaging, complete with the dust cover and all original manuals etc. It even has the plastic bags for the cover and the machine itself. It looks as if its hardly ever been out of the box.

I paid 209 pounds for it. plus delivery etc. all in all it cost me 270 pounds (thats about 475 u.s dollars)

I've scoured the net to try and see if i've got a bargain, but looking for milton bradley versions normally just brings german links which i can't read.
How rare is this particular model?

Also, have I got a bargain or is this not the model to go for?

any tips or pointers for future purchases would be great too !

Cheers
Ginsters
