Paul,

I'm just guessing here from stuff I have read. It seems the version 7000 was "the" best chess master ever produced, so I think it became a best seller and therefore there are many copies of it available. I read a review once indicating that the 7000 was so good that people didn't upgrade to the 8000 because they liked it so much and the improvements were not all that great. I myself have version 9000 which I like it but I don't have much time to play with

As a side note, what I absolutely don't like about it is the fact that from time to time it asks for you to insert the CD on the drive just to verify that your installation is legit. I bought VirtualCD just so I could have the image of the disks on my hard drive and not carry the CD with me when I'm around with my laptop. I have no problem with companies protecting their products from piracy but sometimes I believe they end up punishing legal users with their efforts!
