This is excellent work. We have managed to transfer a Cougar static problem into a Centurion bug.

I will keep my chess computers at least 100 metres apart in case this is catching.

Quarantine regards

Hi Ismenio,

Is that also true to the "fun-level" bug Robert mention? i.e., can other computers can have this problem?

I have never heard of another computer having this problem.

This seems to be a special "feature"  of the Centurion/Cosmos-program, but maybe the other Morsch-GK2100-clones have this too?

I think of President/Mystery/Saitek Challenger/TC2100/Expert Travel Chess and the Cougar...

But this happend 2 times that the centurion have static electricitie in this tournament.

Ok, but wasn't it the Cougar that played so terrible against the Centurion?

When I read Mike's posting...

But to avoid it is very simple keep them at least 100 meters from a other computer

And then shouting the moves to your opponent!!!!

Hello Mick,Robert,Ismenio,

I go now for several years to Leiden and i know that this year the Centurion had problems with the static electricitie ,2 years before the Montreux and 1 year therefore the Magellan . And by the Centurion they didn't change the level. Rob v.Son went to the shop for new batteries during the tournament ,and in the meanwhile the centurion played with his normal powersupply al tournament. But this happend 2 times that the centurion have static electricitie in this tournament. But to avoid it is very simple keep them at least 100 meters from a other computer

Kind regards, Hans

Hi everybody!

Thanks for all this interesting information. I have a question. Is this "feature" (the static problem) particular to the Centurion or have you seen this behavior in other computers? Any way to reproduce it?

Is that also true to the "fun-level" bug Robert mention? i.e., can other computers can have this problem?

Do you mean that there was a bug in the Saitek Cougar program, operator error or static electricity...........?

9. Qb1 is a strange move and then followed by the crazy Queen sacrifice on h7???

To me this looks like the famous(?) "fun-level-bug"!

When you select a level with "+" or "-" and you go over the fun-levels, then it can happen that it plays such "fun-level"-moves (no matter what level is selected!!)

Looks like the fun-levels stay selected!!

I had this effect already twice: once with my Centurion and with my Cosmos (both have nearly the same program) The level was 30sec/move (shown in the display!) but they also sacrificed their queens and more!

It may not happen everytime, but sometimes it does...

Hello Mike,

Mine german is also not so good ,but the german's understand what i write i guess. No i have just 1 Res 2x 1300 =much money No i didn't found it jet but i will look to the Res. Thread. Yes and i am also currious how the Res will do in 40/120 .But as you said indeed a strong field .But mabey the Tasc R40 can't play in it ,it's by Niggemann because of a heatproblem  ,And the Polgar Turbo(20Mhz) is under repair also. So mabey those 2 will not play in the tournament. But the Res has opponents enough to deal with Tasc R30 2.2 and a 2.5 ,Sparc,Star Diamond ,T.M.Londen, Risc 2 Fidelity V11, Montreux, Magellan and mabey the R40 and the polgar Turbo who is very rear and i have never heard that someone have a polgar turbo a mm4 turbo i know there a more from.

Kind regards ,

Hi Hans

Thank you for the link. I will try to read your report in German.   I did not realise that static electricity could still be such a problem.

Is that one Resurrection or two Resurrections you will have?

Did you find the Resurrection thread on this forum? Martin Slowik, Christian Marquardt, Robert Weck and I all posted about it here.

I played it against my Tasc R30 and Mephisto 68030 London and will play it against the Sparc when I have some time. But against your machines 40/120 Resurrection will have a difficult test.

Hello Mike,

No there is no error in the centurion program and it wasn't a operator fault. It was because the centurion was surround by other chesscomputers and then in a while it get a (illnis) just stastistic elektricitie nothing more, then he produce stupid moves. More computers have that problem.
Yes mine machines did well. The  report about that tournament wich i writen, u can find it on www.schachcomputer.info/
by partien/turnieren aber it's in German.
Yes i have also a Resurrection .It play really good winner of te D.A.C.H. Kaufbeuren. But Ruud didn't play in Leiden with the full 16MB memmory, he told me just with 1 ore 4 MB. So that was mabey the problem..But i have let analyse Ruffian on mine 3000 amd and many moves the Res played also mine pc played only then on less time off course. But next Saturday i go to Ruud and pick up the last Res.  The big boys wich i have are waiting for him....to play against the Res.This is gonna be the 3th tournament i gonna play 40/120 . also to follow on that german site.

Kind regards ,

Hans

Your machines did very well at Gebruikers. What did you think of Resurrection, and do you have one of them?

All the best

Hi Autobot

I have not got a Centurion myself and others will give you an idea on cost but I know it is a strong machine. Close to 2000 Elo according to the ratings lists I have seen.

It did well in the recent Gebruikers tournament finishing equal top in the <2000 group with a Mephisto Vancouver 68000. Though it was helped by a totally mad Queen sacrifice from a Saitek Cougar. Did the Cougar throw the match?

What do you folks think of the SAITEK KASPAROV CENTURION CHESS COMPUTER?

Is it really rated about 2000 USCF?  How much do they go for nowadays... I checked the Saitek Website and didn't find them listed anymore.  What is the story on these machines?  Thanks -Sean.
