Dick

I think that this is Steffens way of saying his CC1(s) do not have the original plastic pieces.

As he has seen more CC1s than most of us this can only be an encouraging sign.

Hi,

there should be an easy explanation for the pieces.
My guess is that the owner lost one or more wooden pieces (or the dog took a bite) so that he had to buy new ones.

Best,
Steffen

That does nothing to address the mystery as to why the boxes and manuals for the CC1's show plastic pieces and *not* wooden pieces.

Since the plastic pieces that came with this very early CC1 are the same as the ones pictured on the box and manual, I would think a different conclusion would be more likely.

Dick

Excellent pictures of the machine, pieces and manual. Many thanks.

By the way, had any of you ever noticed that the position of the pieces and the move on the display would be illegal?

The move is 8d 6b, and the black bishop has already been moved to 6b, putting the white king in check.  However, it could not have started at 8d, since that would already have put the white king in check!

Just one more error in the manufacturing process of these CC1's
.

Why could the bishop not have just taken a piece on 6b?

Still playing blindfold regards
Mike

Oops!!!

Now you know why I didn't continue the blindfold CC1 match.

I think you have a unique unit in your hands!!! The pieces look exactly like the ones on the box (I just didn't see your hand in there )
So Fidelity must have shipped some with plastic pieces then
I hope no collector threw theirs away thinking they were not original (DO'H)

Ismenio,

While I would never throw anything away, I almost tossed the baggie with these pieces into a box of useless chess stuff that I have.  I was so certain that they were simply a set of replacement pieces, that I almost didn't even look at them!

However, when I did, I noticed that the rooks, in particular, looked very familar to me.  Then I saw the picture on the CC1 box, and it dawned on me where I had seen those rooks before.

These plastic pieces have magnets in the bottom (well, most of them do) and they are also a lot smaller than the wooden ones that normally come with the CC1.  I have always felt that the wooden CC1/CC3 pieces were too large and very difficult to use since they would slide all over the board.  I wonder why Fidelity changed to the wooden ones early in the production run?

Well, fresh from my success at posting pictures of the different version of the CC1 manual, here are a couple of pictures of the CC1 (serial number 1171) with the plastic pieces that I think are original.

Click on the pics to bring up the full sized versions.

By the way, had any of you ever noticed that the position of the pieces and the move on the display would be illegal?
