That is excellent news. Well Done to you, and Christian.

Paypal fees for Premier Accounts, that is accounts where you can withdraw money, are 3.4% and you probably had to pay a currency conversion fee as well.

In Germany they are used to nil fee bank transfers. So when they offer Paypal as a payment option for the first time they are astounded by the fees deducted from the money they receive and expect the buyer to pay the fees. Then when you pay them the fee Paypal deducts another fee, and you pay that fee and ...................

The only good thing about Paypal is that the alternatives are usually worse. Some competition sounds like a very good idea.

Good news! I got an email from Christian and he finally got the Phantom and confirmed it arrived safe and sound!
I was holding the money waiting for his final OK.

By the way, the total, including shipping was 1054.65 PayPal fees where: 41.73. I don't deal with PayPal much (for receiving money that is! only to pay for auctions) but that seems kind of some high fees to me! eBay must make a lot of money on that!
I heard that Google is coming up with a similar service so hopefuly we'll have competition

I will make the donation this week.

Best regards!

Hi folks,

Sorry for the delay. Today's a crazy day for me.
Well, no surprises! Christian was the winner with his amazing  bid:

Sep 5, 2005 5:30 PM - $1000.00 - Christian Müller

Congratulations Christian and thank you so very much for participating! The money will be put to good use to help those in need and I hope you'll enjoy your Phantom!

Thank you all of you who participated with the bids, messages and support!

All the very best!

I agree!!! That was and outstanding bid! It will be very hard to top that.
I probably wouldn't be able to do it myself!! Well done Christian!

If that's any indication of your performance on eBay I'm afraid by bidding days are over

And I also do recognize and appreciate all the other bids! Your willingness to help in this speaks lots about you!

Update on the auction:

Sep 4, 2005 8:14 AM - $200.00 - Roboteer
Sep 4, 2005 3:23 AM - $400.00 - Steffen
Sep 4, 2005 4:59 PM - $500.00 - Drawmeister
Sep 5, 2005 5:30 PM - $1000.00 - Christian Müller

Many thanks to Christian and everyone who is participating! I must confess this is going well beyond my expectations

Thank You!

Also, I didn't mention this before. Regarding the relief fund. My church is working with those affected both in the area South of US and in Texas were many are being relocated to. They also have plans to help rebuild houses once this is over. That's the fund I'm contributing to.

We really have to thank all the volunteers who are helping those affected. Many are working without much support and based on what I have seen on the news we really need help from private citizens and non-government entities here.

It's good to see total strangers helping their fellow man. I think there is hope for our race on this planet

Best Regards,

Ismenio

Well, here's the update! We have our first bidders and to my surprise the bids have been very generous! I did have second thoughts about listing it on eBay but given the numbers below it shows how people are willing to help!

Sep 4, 2005 3:23 AM - Steffen - $400.00

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your kind words and support but they are really undeserved. I do have several Phantoms and though, like Mike well put, it's hard to let even one of them go, that's a very worthy cause. I really make all my contributions and donations anonymously but in this case I couldn't do it so please don't give too much credit for it!. Plus, I'm not doing this alone! Everyone who bids or even sends messages is participating the way I see it.

Hi Ismenio

It is a fine idea.

Not wishing to embarrass you but I do not think that many of us would have come up with such a generous plan. Not only for the value of the Phantom but also because we are attached to these machines and do not like to see them go.

I wish you every success with the auction,
Mike

Thanks Paul. But don't minimize what you did. When it comes to helping others, everything counts It's the added effort of everybody that helps in the end and every single help makes a difference!

I also missed a couple of pictures I'm adding here and also I just realized that a $1 opening bid doesn't make sense! The opening bid will be whatever the first bidders puts in.

Please bear with me here. I've never done anything like this before so I'm learning as I go. Also keep in mind that unlike eBay, I'll update here with your bid and will not automatically bid on your behalf, i.e., there's not the concept of "current bid and maximum bid". Example:

Current bid is from "IwantThatPhantom" with $50
If you bid $100, that's what would show up here:

Bid  From                        $
1    IWantThatPhantom  50
2    Me2                        100
etc.

Best regards!

Ismenio

How very nice of you.  It makes what I gave to the Red Cross look puny.  Great work.

I've decided to "sell" my very first computer. A Phantom 6100 (green) but with a twist. I'm not going to keep 1 cent but  will donate the sale to a relief fund. As you all know a lot of people have been affected by tragedies and catastrophes that's why I've decided to do this.

I checked with eBay and though they have special benefit auctions you have to be a registered entity for that and I don't want to pay the fees for a "donation" auction. Also,  it gives a chance for others to acquire a Phantom outside eBay.

So here are the details.

Auction is open now, to members and guests from anywhere in the world. It will close next Saturday, Sep 10th at 1:00PM EST (US Eastern time). You can send your bids to my email: ismenio@gmail.com, subject: Forum Auction Phantom

If you prefer, I will keep your data private but in that case I ask you to come up with an auction ID so I can post updates here. I will use this thread for the updates so please check here to see if you have been outbid. You can subscribe to this thread so you'll get emails whenever it is updated. Keep in mind that shipping to other countries will be expensive because of the size and weight. I included a DVD on the pictures so you can have an idea of how big the package is. The DVD is NOT part of the auction.

If you prefer, I can make the final transaction via eBay on a private auction and even use the eBay escrow service but fees are something to consider there. I offer a guarantee that the computer is working so you can send it back to me if you have problems (other than a major crash because of delivery!). If you're outside the US I also ask you to consider paying some extra dollars to have a tracking option so we can both track the package.

- It's a Fidelity Phantom 6100. Color green.
- Original box
- Original manual
- Original A/C adapter
- Original pieces and includes the queen caps (2 white / 2 black)

- Missing: box for the pieces and A/C adapter

I really believe this is a mint Phantom because it came form a warehouse in the US and also because when I compare it to the other Phantoms I have, both cosmetically and how the motors sound, it really seems like it was never sold!

I did not clean it up or use any cleaning product before taking the pictures here so you can see how new it looks. It comes with the original sticky plastic that covers the top of the board!

Again, this is an auction to benefit others. I'm not making any money here and could be a unique chance for you to get a Phantom in excellent condition and at a fair price.

I may not be online when the auction 'closes' so I'll use the emails date/time stamp to select the winner on 09/10/05 1:00PM.

I'll try to post updates on the bids as often as possible.

Please feel free to ask any questions and thank you in advance for participating.
Opening bid: US$ 1.00! (It may sell for a lot less than what I paid for, but I'm willing to take this chance!)

Feel free to share this auction with others. I have this shortcut if you want to send a link that points directly to this thread: Link: http://tinyurl.com/dpmge
