Yes Christian the collection is reaching the limits of the space available. I keep telling the wife that I am going to sell the spares on Ebay.

I was hoping I might get lucky with a copy of the manual. I will email Robert.

All the best

Hey Mike,

you house must be ready tu burst

I got a manual (in English lucky you) from Robert.
However I lost the PDF file but I have still got the hard copy.
Maybe you ask Robert Weck first if he has still got the electronic version. If not, I'll be happy to scan my copy.

Christian

Of course I wanted to say 'your house'...forgive me

Hi All

I have been looking for a Chess 2001 ever since Christian started this thread. This one arrived today :-

The Ebay listing was a bit iffy and I expected to be outbid. My top bid was 27.15. But I won it with 27.08.

Soon after the auction the seller emailed to say that he couldn't send it, as he had found it was faulty. I said please send it anyway and he offered a discount. A little later he emailed. He had it fully working, the problem was the power supply. Great. He would send it with the old power supply and a discount. Today it arrived with a cheque.

It is often the case that people concentrate on the negatives of Ebay, the scams, the tricks and misleading listings. However in my experience you come across far more people, like this gentleman, who was more interested in going out of his way to be scrupulously honest and fair.

The Chess 2001 is in excellent condition and fully working with a universal power adaptor. It even has the spare queens. However no manual.

These will be the last you see of slow loading AOL webpage pictures from me. I expect they will all disappear on Thursday. I am finally deserting the hopelessly slow and awkward AOL and migrating to another ISP. This could be beginning of my problems.

If anyone has the manual in English I would be very grateful for a copy.

All the best
Mike

It is listed with 1550 ELO.
One of Richards earliest creations!

Robert,

as I told earlier the 2001 plays not so bad...but you really have to give him time to think...and I do not have enough patience to play a game with an average time pr move of one or two minutes.

thanks for the manual. Yes, I agree, it is a very attractive chess computer, despite the fact that it is made of plastic. But it has got one flaw: it doesn't know this much about chess.

Christian,

It was a lot of fun reading the computer translated version of of your comments

d7+ Kd8 naja whether that the best profit taking was
Le6: fe6:
Ke6: Ta8
Kd6 a3
Tb1 a2 that was nix, now is out... saves me the Quaelerei in the tower final game
Te1 a1D
Te8 argl
1:0

Naja with much energy was not easily... slowly pushed the portion stop.
So correctly badly the machine does not play, if one gives their time.
But on the low stages... here a short portion (nevertheless on stage 5, 30-60 seconds per course)

Ismenio

Ismenio,

I just copied the game from an email I sent to a fellow collector in Germany...I just forgot to remove them

But hte translation is indeed fun

I think I will start posting in German here and let google do all the heavy translation duty for me

I have scanned it and can send it to you by e-mail (only 500KB, 8 scans with 12 pages)

Well,

Canada is already paying off. After having told everybody about my collecting habit, a new computer came off:

It is a plastic device, quite big, called Chess 2001 and build 1984 in Hongkong.

Unfortunatedly there is no manual...

Does anybody know more about this device, or has a manual available?

Christian
