My first love is horse racing. I have a small interest in three sprinters, two older geldings and an unraced three year old. An old stager called Blackheath is the best (winner of 7 races including the Scottish Stewards Cup), plus Banjo Bay and Pinpoint.

I wondered about this.  I noticed that you are quite heavy into racing forms, so I suspected you might have this interest.

Fortunately, my only expensive outside interest is motor cars - they only need to eat when you want to use them, and never die suddenly on you (at least not irrevocably).

It appears that I am out of the running on the Fidelity Elite 4.0, as it has reached close to $440 now.

Oh well, there will always be another, someday.

Very considerate of you not asking. Thank you.

The bullet games are full of bandits with fast internet connections and all manner of tricks to distract you.

I try not to get involved in poker, with or without jokers.
Online poker is becoming very popular over here.

I thought I would try to win a few Elo points to encourage interest in the sale. Fatal!

If you are playing the manual "joker" and really want a rating of mine how about starting with my "Bullet" rating? All moves in 1 minute.

Don't ask
Mike

Mike,

I won't ask what you didn't want me to ask, but I have to ask something.  How do you know about jokers?  Do you guys use them in your card games over there?  Actually, I am a rather serious poker player, and, of course, I never use jokers in my games!    And I don't like this so-called Texas Hold-em that seems to be so popular these days over here.

"All moves in 1 minute"?  Heck, I sometimes only take 30 seconds or so for each of my first few moves.  I should be able to do this.

OHHH.......  I think I see now.  You mean the entire game in 1 minute for each player!    How the heck can anybody do that?  I can't move my hand that fast.

I think I will stick to playing my computers and my friends around here - the ones I can beat, anyway.

You can get one of your own at FICS at no expense.

ICC is subscription but worth it. Always a suitable opponent. They are featuring the games at Linares at the moment. Come on Mickey Adams !!

How odd is this? Chessbase.com has a new clip about someone trying to sell his Playchess.com account with an ELO rating of 2586.

Link: http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=2219

I think eBay took it down as I couldn't find it.
I gave up trying to figure out why people play against a partner online cheating with a computer but this one topped that!

Oh and there was I thinking this is a GM down on his luck

This has given me an idea. You know a chaps Ego, sorry Elo, rating is one of his most prized possessions. My one goes up and down like a yo-yo. A bad session on ICC can see a 200 points go in an evening. It is a hard fight to get back to where you were. Much concentration and eyestrain. After 5329 games of Blitz on ICC I am ready to retire and hand my Ego rating over to someone who can carry it on to 2800+. "Finger" available for inspection at any time. Currently Blitz 1666 Elo, Standard 1929 Elo(14 games).

Will exchange for a chess computer, accessories, manual, or cash. No timewasters.

Mike,

If you only realized how tempting this offer is to me.  Since I have no rating at all, my usually huge Ego is down a few points from the norm.  If I only had a decent Elo, then I would be somebody.

Hey, come to think of it, I already sent you one of the required items.

May I begin using one of your ratings today?
