Mike,

As I could not find the Brute Force instructions I started with Level b7 which is the Analysis Level in the Renaissance manual. As it was taking the best part of an hour to get to 8 ply I thought something might be wrong. Oh yes. The Renaissance was using its own program not the Brute Force.

one hour is amazing fast! Others like me, played several games until they noticed that Analyst or Sparc was damned weak today!

Hello Mike,

The Sparc manual has Level f8 as Analysis so I tried the Brute Force with Level f8, and came up with 86 secs - 8 ply and 250 secs - 9 ply.

Mike

thanks a lot for your testing!

Indeed the Brute Force is a little bit slow compared i.e. to the President who needs 36 secs and 193 secs. It looks like there is a bigger difference (apart of its hash tables) to the other H8 programs. A second indicator is, that the Brute Force didn't solve BT-2450 test position #11 (.. Qxh2) within 900 secs.

Danke und viele Grüße,
Bernhard

Hi Bernhard

Well this test was a bit more difficult than I thought.

As I could not find the Brute Force instructions I started with Level b7 which is the Analysis Level in the Renaissance manual. As it was taking the best part of an hour to get to 8 ply I thought something might be wrong. Oh yes. The Renaissance was using its own program not the Brute Force.

The Sparc manual has Level f8 as Analysis so I tried the Brute Force with Level f8, and came up with 86 secs - 8 ply and 250 secs - 9 ply.

On Level f8 the Brute Force will not give the number of positions evaluated so far (not nps?). That part of the Info display stays blank.

Bernhard without the instructions I can not say what the size of the opening book is either.

The timings seem particularly slow. Whether I have got this wrong or whether it is in the nature of the Brute Force I do not know.

viele Grüsse
Mike

Hello Mike,

I need your help please! I collected and published some available informations about the H8 Morsch programs ( http://www.schachcomputer.info/forum/showpost.php?p=875&postcount=2 ). But nobody seemed to have the Brute Force module. IIRC (eBay !) do you own the Renaissance with Brute Force module now!?

Mike, please may I ask you to make the "f3-test" for me? Setup the Brute Force to the start position, use analyze mode and enter the pawn move f2-f3. I am very interested to know how long it takes to reach the 8th and 9th ply. The nps value (if available) would be helpfull too. And do you know how big the opening book is?

Thanks a lot,
Bernhard
