Hi Ismenio,

Thanks for the link - I've not seen this 'new' version, perhaps its not yet available in UK?  I might have to get one of these when they do appear!

I can understand no chess in a 10 game selection, but no chess in a 40 game offering is a little disappointing!

Best wishes

Hi Chris,

I was thinking of the "flashback 2". I found the link:

http://www.atari.com/us/games/atari_flashback2/7800

But as you predict, no chess
Though it's only $30 bucks. For 40 games that's not bad

Hi Ismenio

I'm not sure, do you mean the Atari 10 in 1 plug & play joystick as in the sample listing below:?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/10-Classic-Atari-Games-in-One-Joystick_W0QQitemZ8226601693QQcategoryZ38597QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If so, unfortunately Chess isn't one of the 10 games    (hard to believe I know but I don't think Video Chess was the most popular of all the cartridges ever produced!). Still the 10 in 1 joystick is also great fun and a good and quick alternative to pulling out the old console.

Best wishes

Hi Chris,

Have you seen the recently (re)released Atari 2600 with a ton of games built in? (I don’t have the links right now) Do you know if they have chess in the list?

Hi All,

....perhaps I am the only one here with more Atari cartridges than chess computers!    (which unfortunately do not inlcude one of these rare Coke versions in their number )

Ismenio, your post was a coincidence, as last night I happened to fire up Video Chess for a quick few games. I sold my VC cartridge some time ago, so was playing on an emulator which gives as far as I can tell a perfect rendition of VC (down to the multi-coloured thinking display) and all other 500+ games for Atari as well.

For anyone interested, in this sort of thing, if you've not already seen it try the following:

http://www.atariage.com/2600/emulation/index.php?SystemID=2600

I can heartily recommend the z26 emulator together with x26 front end  - great fun, if you are of an age to remember it first time round!

Best wishes

Chris

Unbelievable. To pay that much for a cartridge that can't even play chess. These guys must need help even more than us.

There again cartridge collecting would overcome the need to keep moving to a bigger house every 100 extra chess computers.

Seriously thinking about it

Now, interestingly, I saw this auction for a single Atari cartridge, a rare one, not chess related but worth looking at because it sold for.... US $1,825.00 Just the cartridge!!

What a bargain!

Ok, maybe it really was! Perhaps this "Pepsi Invaders" was not sold, but a promotion gift for famous people and there only exist <5 pieces!

Believe it or not: I've heard that there are people who collect old chess computers!

Why should anyone do this? Modern chess programmes play much better than they do!!

What a waste of time and space and money...

joking regards,
Robert

I got an Atari 2600 from eBay plus some games. My real goal was to get the console + the chess cartridge! I am now looking for an adapter for my TV to see if even works. That's more nostalgia and since I like anything electronic-computer-chess related it was a must have for me
