There where no modified comp. as i am aware of..

Not quite; the Mach III was running at 20 MHz (Frank was not bragging with it, as he is a very quiet guy) and the Elite Champion (the one, that had to be replaced, because it broke down!) was running at 5 MHz (like the Travemünde-Elite)

Looks like you guys had a great time there!
Are the pictures up yet? Interesting results Robert!
Are there special arrangements made for checking the computers and whether the room temperature is adequate (does it even matter really ), what about modified machines, etc? (Just curious!)

Ismenio

Hello Ismenio,

Quote from: Ismenio on October 21, 2005, 04:46AM

I’ll be honest: I would be more interested in meeting people and exchanging information than in seeing the machines compete amongst themselves

it is the mixture of both, that makes it so attractive (at least for me!). This year, it was exciting for me up to the final game between a Mach III 20 MHz and a Scorpio. It was deciding, if my Corona D+ 8 MHz would be the last or next to the last in the final standing!

And the Corona made it!

Quote:

How many people do you usually have there?

About 20-25

Quote:

How long does it last and is there a registration/ticket process?

Most people arrive on Friday late afternoon/evening and then a quick "Blitz"-tournament (5"/move) is arranged!

In the main tournament 7-9 games (30sec/move) are played (according to the group size)

It usually starts Saturday morning at around 11.00 am. Most participants play 6-7 games this day. The rest is done on Sunday.

This year, it took us until Sunday 3.00 pm, because there were some technical problems with a Excalibur Grandmaster, with had to be replaced with the above mentioned Scorpio; the first GM-matches had to be replayed...

Normally the tournament is finished at noon. Most people have to drive some 100 km's this day.

Only the participants in the tournament have to register at Kurt's site...

Quote:

Sorry if I ask something that has been discussed in Kurt’s forum or elsewhere. I haven’t had time to go around much lately so I have no idea of what’s going on out there

You know, that this is no problem!!!!  >:(

You are helping us so much, so it is impossible to be angry with you!

Without you i could not play with a Chess Tiger on my wrist!

Robert

P.S.: My Corona D+ 8 MHz performed not good in the main tournament, but he was great in the "Blitz"! As by far the weakest machine there (about 200 points less than the next, a Star Diamond) he made 3 draws (against Resurrection Toga (a little bit lucky! ), London T.M. and the Star Diamond) and he even defeated the Fidelity V11 in a beautiful match!! Alwin Gruber, the owner of the V11, had a printer attached and running during the Blitz-tournament, so i hope, i will get the notation of this game!

IIRC, the Star D. scored only one point...

Christian, thanks so much for your generosity, hospitality and the offer!! That would be great to actually be there! Maybe  our wives can let us "play" with the computers while they talk about... "wife" stuff

Thank you again! We will make plans Munich is a beautiful city! If I remember you'll be back by 2007 right?

Bavarian Regards,

Robert,

Yes I saw previous pictures in the past! I think there was even a good-looking Fossil owner there
My wife and I were talking about vacation plans for next year or the year after and if I could find enough attractions to lure… errrr…convince her that it would be a cool place to visit, maybe I could make it!

Ismenio

Ismenio,

Kaufbeuren is not far away from Munich...maybe this is an argument which counts for your wife

An in Munich I can provide free accomodation. This will definitedly reduce the cost of a Bavaria trip!

Hi Ismenio,

Quote from: Ismenio on October 20, 2005, 06:46PM

I would like it to make to Kaufbeuren one day!

That would be great!

Quote:

Let us know how it goes there. Tell me, do computers change hands over there? Any chance one can hope to buy or trade these babies?

Sometimes yes!

Steffen has asked us in Kurt's forum, whether there was interest in buying or trading some of his computers, so he would take them to Kaufbeuren.

Quote:

PS: How about taking some pictures to share with us?

You can be sure, that soon you will find them on Kurt's site! (have you seen the pics of the prior tournaments?)

Robert (who will maybe already be in Kaufbeuren, when most of you read this! )

Good news to see progress Hans!

Thanks for keeping us posted. Interesting the description of the soldered terminal of the components! When I was playing with electronics as a kid that was one of the first things I learned to avoid!

It's very important to have clean components and even a good soldering iron. I even remember something about avoiding touching the terminals too much because of the oil and sweat on your fingers that could affect the quality of the work.

Good luck with the R40 repair Hans.

If you need them, is it still possible get R40 RAM chips, or salvage some from a R30?

All the best
Mike

Hello Hans,

we can only hope but Arno has good faith in it,so am i.

I'm sure: If Arno can't do it, then nobody can! It would be a big loss for the chess computer community, if a R40 would be damaged beyond repair!

Also good news he repaired mine Polgar Turbo(20Mhz)

That's good to hear!

Hello Boys.

Here is the e-mail i get send by Arno,

" The main problem is,that the RAMS are not on sockets,it's not normal by Tasc units.
I think it's a result from the upgrade.
There was a upgrade for a time from R30 to R40,and the work is not accurate.
Many soldered points are dirty, Imust clean them all before i can have results, many reasons, that's is diffucult to found the faulty RAM or RAM'S"

we can only hope but Arno has good faith in it,so am i.

Also good news he repaired mine Polgar Turbo(20Mhz) and also put the Kit on a Exclusieve Board before it was a modular board.

Greeting from the Dutch.

Hans

P.S 1 more day and then......KAUFBEUREN yeahah
