Ok I can see that you have reservations Ismenio, and Dick and Bernhard have also pointed out that some may get upset at being "exposed". So I will not do that.

However I will do a private note by email between us with the information suggested and perhaps we can keep it updated and extended as we go along.

Hi Mike,

I have to agree with Dick here. I see pros and cons to posting the IDs but I wouldn't feel comfortable in putting the information on the site without the approval from the ID owners.
I have no problem with people knowing about mine and it also seems you'd OK with that.

The information is pretty much available to any registered user, so it's almost public domain I think, but having that listed with others and other information may upset some folks.

What I would like to have is a collector's / dealer's rating but I think that's also hard to transfer from a concept to a useful information. The way I see that rating is more like a level of trust for a group or known, reputable folks that you can freely deal with. As one example, if I were to sell a computer and you were the buyer, I would ship it you in a heart beat even before I were to get the payment. But I don't know about how useful that list would be since those knowing others already have an informal contact list. Maybe it would be helpful in the concept of a proxy person.

Anyway, I'm still thinking about how to make the eBay watch list more useful so keep the ideas coming

Best,

Ismenio

I was thinking of posting a list of Ebay IDs. Perhaps 30 or 40 sellers and buyers who are chess computer collectors that I have come across. The purpose, so that those who become interested in the hobby can know who they are buying from or bidding against. Also so that others can add to the list, IDs we do not already know.

As some people appear a little coy about their Ebay IDs, not us, I thought I would ask you before putting up such a list.

What do you think.

Mike

Mike,

I will never let you or anybody else know what my ebay ID is.  I want it to remain a secret forever.

That is why I left off the trailing "S" on the end of my name in my ID.  I figured that would be enough to throw everybody off the track.

I think that is a good idea, but I could see where some might not like being "exposed" like that.  I always like to search what my adversary bidders' history is on their most recent purchases.  When I see a pattern, then I know that I am up against an addict, and not just a casual buyer.  The one extra bit of information, like we talked about earlier, that would be useful for me is whether that person is a dealer or just a collector.  That can be somewhat determined if there is a history of sales, and not just purchases, in the genre of items of interest.

Maybe you could add a short bit of information, like "German dealer", "English collector", "recent USA addict that never backs down and never loses any auction no matter what the price".

That last one would be me.  Perhaps, if that became known, then nobody else would ever bid against me.
