Hi Ismenio,

what a perfect job you did! I would like to vote for changing your title from administrator to wizzard.

The german translations by Google are complete funny. If I wouldn't know that we are talking about chess computers ...!

"Here's one unpublished short cut Mike:" was translated to
"Ist hier ein unveröffentlichtes Mikrophon des kurzen Schnittes:" which means
"Is there an unpublished microphone for short cutting?"

Are the automated translations from german to english so funny too?

Bernhard

P.S. BTW while creating a message, the "Preview" option does not work for me. It does the same like "Post" or "Save" buttons. Using IE 6 with both Active X & Javascript disabled.

Thanks Bernhard, but I really don't think I deserve the credit. Hopefully others will find the information useful.

As for the translations, I always get a kick out of them! Every time I need to use those services they make me laugh! And the pattern seems to be the same no matter what language you select. I've found that they can be somewhat useful but you definitely need to post-process the results yourself.

I will try to play with IE more, especially in visualizing the site and the forum. I'm a Firefox guy so I haven't used IE in quite a while.

I was going to ask you something, if you have time for it. I'm trying to get some basic information about Mephisto, the company, when it was founded, a little bit of history and something the acquisition by Novag. Any curiosities would definitely be a plus!

Let me know what you think.

Best,

Ismenio

My translation software gives

"An unpublished microphone of the short cut is here"

That is fairly typical Bernhard. No wonder I get odd replies to my questions in German.

When it goes really haywire is when you try to translate people using slang and everyday speech. For some reason translating Kurts comments on a schachcomputer can often leave you none the wiser.

and that comes out

Wenn es wirklich geht, ist haywire, wenn Sie versuchen, Leute zu übersetzen, die Slang und alltägliche Sprache benutzen. Aus einigen Gründen, die Kurts Bemerkungen auf einem schachcomputer oft übersetzen, können Sie keiner das weisere verlassen.

Now thats not bad is it

Beste Grüße
Mike
