Lilian,
You're most welcome! And thanks for the pictures.
That sounds like a fun project to take and I'm sure you can find help here if you need. But if you get tired of it, I would be interested in that card. Even if it turns out it doesn't work.
But I think other members may also be interested so just put me on the bottom of the list. I give them first refusal.
Regards,
Ismenio

Ismenio, Robert, Alain
you are very nice, really!!!
well, Ismenio, you can use my photos all right and if you need some more, just tell me and I will take more. Just bought the little nice nikon coolpix and am spoiling to make pictures!
No, I don't have any documentation. This drive arrived in a very big box that my neighbour got at her office, of old things, and I mean old: isa scsi drivers, eisa video drives, isa network adapters and so on
Robert, about the drive. I do have a pentium s133 and a 586 (my first pet, can't let it go, even if i should), both with isa slots. have, somewhere, dos 6.2. maybe can find dos 5 in some abandonware site. Well, looks like a project, doesn't it?
Unless... do you think any of you can be interested in having it?
best regards!
Lilian

I took some photos and they are in something called msn spaces:

I'm not sure if they are exactly the same as your photo
Can I put it in a pc to see if it works? Do I need something especial, software or dos, or....

I'm afraid, that it is hard (if not even impossible!), to bring it to work in a modern PC! As Ismenio said, you need a PC with an ISA-slot, which new PC's don't have. And even when they have one, this doesn't mean, that it will work.
The Chessmachine is running with DOS (IIRC a DOS-box under Win95 was ok)
If you have a boot-disk with DOS 5.0 or so, then this should be ok.
I tried it in a P200 and it didn't work. I remember that my Chessmachine was functioning in an old IBM Ambra 486 (the only reason, why i'm keeping this old PC alive!)
It did not work in a Toshiba 5200 (biiiig laptop with plasma-display and 2 ISA-slots)

Sorry to ask so many questions, I'm very curious about it, never seen one before. if you get fed up just tell me off ok?

Hi Lilian,
You don't need to worry about your questions! Folks here are very helpful and willing to help.
Could I use your pictures on a page with notes on that card?
I don't have one of those myself but it looks like it is an ISA card so you'd need a computer with that type of slot. I don't think the computers being manufactured today come with that but I'm not 100% sure.
Also, you do need some software. But I'll let others comment on that. I think it came with a program but you could upgrade it and run a different one.
Like Alain said, the chess program would run on that card and not use the CPU of the computer, because it was more efficient. Today the story is different.
I take it that you don't have any documentation, right?
That company, TASC, is no longer in business
Regards,
Ismenio

It is a chess playing card made when the standard PC was less powerful than the strongest dedicated computers like the Tasc.
It has its own processor (ARM) and memory and can run two programs:
1) the first is from Ed Schroeder and I think is the same than the Mephisto Risc 1MB
2) the second is The King by Johan de Koning (R30's program as well as most Chessmaster programs for PC)
Best,
Alain

looks like it. I'm not sure if it's identical, as I'm at work and the drive is at home. I can take a photo of it and post later...
if it's the same, what is it, pls?
