Well, my opinion is that, just like any other item you are buying you should research it first. I would obviously try to buy things from the vendor who has the cheapest price.

I am myself guilty of paying too much for some of the computers I have

Sometimes I am not really sure about what a fair price would be, especially after seeing so many crazy eBay auctions. My best advice would be to ask around! Check with others and if that's something you really want and can't find anywhere else, just try to negotiate the price

After all, I see offers as "asked price"!

Hope that helps.

Someone
(a known collector)

told me that the prices asked in the offers

from this address are "nonsense".

Please, your opinion ?

Thanks,
GM.

Hi 'GM'

Are you looking for a new or used computer? Also in which country are you looking to buy?

For example if in UK, you could try the following:

http://www.elhchess.demon.co.uk/

Eric Hallsworth sells both new and second hand computers and maintains a longstanding and reputable rating list for dedicated computers:

http://www.elhchess.demon.co.uk/ehss.htm  (you will need to subscribe to see the full list!  )

Another rating list to help you decide on models over 2000 elo  can be found here:

http://www.alte-schachcomputer.de/SCeloliste.htm

Other places to search, include of course ebay, in which case check out Ismenio's excellent search tool:

http://www.ismenio.com/ebay.html

In terms of models, there are plenty to choose from, the Novag Star Diamond suggested by Hans is a current model and should be a good choice if you want a strong new machine (nearly 2200 rated). I don't have this, but I have been very pleased with my Diamond 2 which is the earlier model.

Hope this helps

Best wishes

Chris

Perhaps a new Star Diamond2 249 euro by www.niggemann.com/

(but this is not a troll!)

I am searching for any chess computer
whose real elo is more than 2000.
It seems (SSDF) that most of them are made
by Mephisto/Saitek but I have no prejudgment.
Please, what are
- your advices for the way of searching ?
- your offers !?

Thanks.
