Hi Mike,

It sold for £6.00. As always, I'm way too late to check things. Just saw your post now. I can only image that, because there wasn't a lot of competition that this one didn't attract that much attention (!?)

Dear All

I had my eye on this Ebay auction a couple of days ago :-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8735396827&

Then something came along and took my attention and I found that Karsten B had made the  winning bid. Well it is clear what it is, a Hanimex Computachess II, model number HCG1600. However Hanimex is just a marketing company/distributor for CXG in the UK etc so this must be a CXG. But which one?

Can anyone confirm that this is a CXG Super Computachess (CXG009) or some other CXG model please?

Horrible stories, yes, i couldn't agree more!

Via eBay, I once bought a Chessica from a firm in the USA. The price advertised was 72 dollars.  After adding shipping, tax and what Ian refers to as "handling", the price of this computer turned out to be more than 160 dollars!!

If you wat the details, there are laid down at:

Imports in to the UK are charged a percentage duty rate based on the value and category of goods, and then V.A.T at 17.5 % is added to that.

But what really annoys me is the expensive 'handling' charge imposed by the postal office for presenting the item to Customs !.

When i got my Phantom from the US the charges came to just under 20% of the purchase price, so you always need to be aware of these additional costs before buying.

Ian.

Hi Jorge,

Sorry I'm replying in English this time.
On the map, I just saw we're now 21!! A friend from Australia  is there! Tommy, if you're reading this, a big "Hi" to you. I have no information about chess computer popularity down there.

Also, you said you're only 16 Jorge? Wow! I'm glad to see someone that young with interest in chess computers.

On the Phantom, that import tax is outrageous!! 60%? I can see how that would certainly affect the price for the Phantom.
How much is that in UK and Germany?
Interestingly, I have never paid import taxes here in the US. And I have received computers I bought on eBay where the forms came with the full price I paid!

Talk to you all soon!

Best regards,

Ismenio

Gentlemen who speak English: I try translate, sorry if this have any error. Ismenio

Only by importation. I do not know no manufacturer, (except Splice and Mattel ) that she has branch office in Brazil or that has a regular production of computer chess. So, all phantom in here are imported .That I know, I am the only Brazilian who sells regularly computer chess. This is excellent, therefore I have 16 years and I created a beautiful monopoly!  That is a small branch, but I sell well here. My Next arrived today, but still I did not put to sell. It is nice, functions 100% and is in good condiction. My Portachess II is very nice too, but the seller of the Ebay forgot to ship the pieces . Poor guy, have to pay shipping 2 times for Brazil .I´m with the heart in the hand for having that to sell it: ( But businesses are businesses.

I saw this Phantom and ask for license to disagree, Ismenio, the price is good, because of a detail: Goods with value above of 50 dollars pays 60% customs tax when arrive here. 1 USD worth R$2,20(reais, the brazilian currency), then, I think this is a just price . This tax is nonsense, therefore I buy only cheap products.

Thanks,
Jorge

Ola Antonio,

Legal te ver no mapa

Ola Jorge,

Ismenio

PS: Folks, I think it's time you start to fire up Altavista or Google to decypher this craz language
Jorge is looking for a Phantom and I want to know if they were sold in Brazil (I doubt that) I said the average price for them on eBay seems to be $500 - BTW, feel free to jump in the conversatin any time - Google will give some "reasonable" translation if you use simple sentences!

Olá Ismenio

Não conheço colecionadores aqui no Brasil. Eu gosto muito de xadrez eletrônico. Compro no exterior e revendo aqui.

"Non Brazilian members":   "What he said??"

PS.: Thanks Mike  . Very nice collection

Hi Jorge

You will find two like this on Tom's website :-

http://www.xs4all.nl/~tluif/chescom/Engindex.html

both under Miscellaneous - Next and Krypton Chess Express.

Next and Systema are amongst the marketing names/distributors used for some Saiteks sold in the UK. Krypton is another such distributor/marketing name. As far as I know these handhelds do not appear on any rating list. Tom has given his assessment of the strength.

All the best
Mike
