Ismenio,

The compliments are undeserved, but thanks anyway.

I think programming is a much nicer game than checkers: the compiler is so friendly to tell you what mistakes you made and won't checkmate you for it. After a while you even learn there's nothing to worry about if it flags a hundred errors after you've just forgotten one curly bracket.

By the way, I did not play against Chesster, but one-ply Fritz did. The latter was beaten like this:

[Site "Overtom"]
[Date "2005.11.22"]
[White "Fritz-2ply"]
[Black "Kishon-A2"]
[Result "0-1"]

Mike,

If you believe the program records your moves, just pull out the Internet plug and lo-and-behold: it will just go on playing. The page will even refresh if you press F5 (or an apple or other fruit on a Mac).

By the way, don't worry about being poked fun at in German: I read the comment of someone with the same phobia as yours, who remarked: "The best option is the one that makes Kishon shut up."

Best regards,

tom

Tom

So far I have resisted the temptation of buying a chess computer which will poke fun at me in German. However I did try your game to see how my Alzheimers is progressing. The answer is very well as you can see from the strategy I adopted on my third game.

Click on 1 and 2. No luck.
Click on 2 again.......

I stopped a little later in case you had a means of seeing how many clicks people were taking.

All the best

Yet another award-winning log entry Tom! As always, I learned something new. Not having a Kishon I didn't know anything about what phrases are contained in his repertoire. I loved the "Even a thirty-dollar computer plays better than you" - I would probably hear that a lot
You covered it very well. All the highlights in a sweet, short, easy to read entry. Keep up the good work

As for the... uh.. hmm.. uh.. what was I going to say? ... I can't remember... Oh! Yes, the Alzheimer test! I think that I should be playing checkers now

Best regards,

Ismenio

Lately, I've been rather busy making a little applet that can be used to test how far Alzheimer has affected one's memory. (overtom.nl/EngMemory.html).

But today I once again had the time to write a weblog - this time about Kishon's Chesster (overtom.nl/weblog/23NOV05.html).

Hope you like it, with best regards,

tom
