I didn't know that Robert! Now I want to see them both.
And Sneakers is one of my very favorite movies of all time!
One of my favorite moments is when the girl is leaving the plant and says something like "I'll never use a computer dating service again" and the guy says "Wait a minute! A computer matched you two?" and he knew something was wrong!

And the blind hacker driving the van!
Also the end of the movie which I won't mention so as not to be a spoiler for those who haven't seen it

Have you see the Phantom anywhere?

Hi all,

did you know, that a Novag Robot can be seen in the video "Baby Jane" from Rod Stewart? (from 1983; just seen yesterday on german TV)

And IIRC also in the movie "Sneakers" with Robert Redford, Dan Aykroyd and Sidney Poitier!

Maybe we should open another thread "Chess computers in movies"

I would know another candidate for it!

Thanks for the link Mike.
The current price is already high, in my opinion:

(Approximately US $522.30)

Start time:    Nov-23-05 08:04:24 PST
History:    7 bids  (EUR 1.00 starting bid)
High bidder:    vanbever ( 38Feedback score is 10 to 49)
Item location:    Neuss, default
Germany

Shipping costs:    EUR 7.00 - Hermes Paket (versichert)

Sometimes I wonder how much of the high prices they fetch is due to "hype", collecting-DNA and the cool-factor of having a chess computer with a robotic arm. I fall into the the 3rd option.

So much so that if I could choose, I would rather have one from the two projects we have going on here in the forum than the Novag one. But that's just me. I fully understand the historic value of the Adversary but like I said before, I want some modern and that I can really play with and not just display on a glass case

If I really had money, I wouldn't mind getting one of these to reverse-engineer! (I know I that would probably be a sin and I would be excommunicated from the community before I could even become a collector )

Sadly this old beauty has a defect. It is described so :-

This unit is not in playing condition, though the processor board and roms are working. The computer starts up and responds to keypresses, but a fault in the chessboard keeps the game from starting. One of the squares is stuck either on or off, so a piece positioning error is indicated.
Performing the arm test does work, the arm moves along all axes and the clamp also works.
Once the board contact is fixed, the unit should be in working order.
