Ian,

I have to confess that I have done the same... let's call it... experiment and the results were not pretty! I am convinced that whatever processing power I have left on my brain, I can't use it for multitasking when playing chess

I often times wonder how some can do it in front of an audience!

Ismenio,

sucessful multitasking seems to be a female only trait  !.

Ian

The man v machine battle is essentially unfair. We get distracted and lose concentration, they never. If you play a comp on the internet you suffer mouse slips and they never. Then there are the stalemate swindles, my particular pet hate.

But in my book anyone who watches "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" deserves all they get.

From memory here's the opening moves, it is a favourite line of mine that i use to {usually} good effect against 'middle' strength chess computers' and playing blitz games on the internet.
Why not give it a try against your Phantom or Par Excellence ?.

Drawmeister - Phantom 6100

e4    e5
d4    ed4
Bc4    Nc6
Nf3    Nf6
e5    Qe7
o-o    Ne5
Ne5  Qe5
Re1    Ne4
f3      d5
Bd3    Bb4
Re2........you can see where i am going to let the Black Bishop come to g4 !

Have fun.

Started playing a game against my Phantom {it's handy as it's the only one out on permanent display} and managed to win a piece for 2 pawns fairly early on.....

...then a programme comes on the tv that i have been following { for UK viewers- i'am a celebrity get me out of here !} so whilst also watching the tv and confident of an eventual win i lose another pawn,...then my Rook and Queen get forked by the Bishop. Ok i am in trouble but Queens come off and the Phantoms pawns are scattered so i win one back. Endgame: I have Bishop, Knight and 2 pawns against Rook and 4 pawns, 2 sets of pawns come off so i give my Knight up for another pawn and active King play, so i can round up the last rooks pawn and Rook v Bishop is a technical draw, oh no !! it sacrifices the pawn, if i take it the rook then attacks my Bishop and threatens a back rank mate at the same time...time to press the reset button and the tv programme has just finished.

Playing your chess computer and watching tv.. don't do it, or maybe the Phantom was just toying with me all along.
