Now for the present : Tasc's manual is online, I'll probably scan the PC interface's manual this week-end and add a picture of the board.

PC Interface is online as well as the pictures of the recent additions to my collection (Tasc & Dames Challenger, the other items can be ignored  )

I bought a Fidelity Impact Printer back in the mid 1980s to go with my Elite A/S. It was a funny chattery little plastic one. A touch temperamental as I remember. But like so many of my purchases it was traded in so that I could get a faster stronger chess computer that beat me a little quicker.

Ah the nostalga!

Mid-80s, it was the good time : I was almost always the winner against my chess computer at that time

Well

it was a Chess Challenger 7

you are lucky, I don't think I have ever seen a Fidelity printer alone (and I have an Elite without printer)

I wish I could comment on that. I was born in Brazil and football is big over there as you know. But I was never into it.

you destroyed my prejudice that every Brazilian is a soccer champ. It was deeper in my mind than, that every Russian is a chess GM!

Why do these things keep coming up exactly when I want to/have to save my hard-earned money?
I saw that one but quickly looked the other way I promised myself I will not bid on it. Plus, I don't think I could get it anyway, even though I still don't have a computer + printer pair. I have a lonely printer I got as a gift still waiting for its companion.

Chess + Computers + Football, interesting combination! I can hear a football radio announcer narrating a Kasparov against a computer game!

this eBay seller adds High Heels to your combination: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=40855&item=5173975905&rd=1

Arsenal v Bayern tonight. It will be close?

as Roy Makaay is not on the field tonight, Arsenal has a good chance for a draw.

Football (soccer) regards,
Bernhard

.. still 0-0 between Arsenal and Bayern at the break now!

Edit1: 66' 1-0 (by Henry)
Edit2: Arsenal wins 1-0, but is out (they lost the 1st game 1-3). Sorry Mike.

Bernhard
Yes Bernhard. The better team over the two legs won. Bayern must stand a fair chance of winning the Champions League. They look a solid well balanced team. Press the ball well. Arsenal not at their best right now.

Liverpool evened things up though.

.. I too.

The best chance to catch a Bavaria is at Kurts forum (or eBay). OK, if you have enough time, take a travelling tour through all chess clubs and ask every member. You will need arguments, they can't resist.

But there is a 99.99% hint: find an Omikron Bogol and I name you someone who (most likely) trades it against the Mephisto Bavaria.

Edit: you have to be very lucky to find chess computers on 2nd hand markets in Germany. In our local papers I have not seen them.

Bavarian regards,
Bernhard

... let me throw in the Mephisto Bavaria with Genius 68030 London module. The same smooth piece recognition, tournament board size and an Elo rating like the R30 v2.2. I like R30s thin board, but the big "all in one" Bavaria machine has its charme too.

Viele Grüße,

Ahh, the Bavaria! Even the name is beautiful!

Bernhard, since you're our man in field, can you tell us about how hard it is to find the Mephisto beauties out there in the real world?
In the US we have some 2nd hand stores where, every now and then you can come across some vintage electronic stuff. Very seldom we find something rare though.

Do they show up in the classified section of papers or anywhere else?

Ich wünsche ein Bayern!

Ahh, now I see my master plan.  I will buy every available Cyber "thingy" in the free world and then you will have to deal with me, only.

How many Cyberchess would it take to get a single R30?
Five, maybe six?

I don't see many references to the other Tasc, the R40 (I think it is).  Is that one not as good, or simply much rarer?  Usually, a higher number signifies a newer and better version.

Dick

That is fiendish. >:(  You know that my weakness is to be denied when I just about had the item in my grasp. A month ago I had never heard of a Cyberchess. Now I am a sitting duck for any rogue trader that has one. Sorry seven.

As for the R40 it is the supercharged version of the R30 with cooling fan and 25-30 Elo points stronger. It was made in small numbers. Steve is the man to ask about it. Externally I think that the only differences you would see are the rear ventilation slots and the menu message announcing the program /machine version.

Bernhard a Bavaria is on my long range wish list. Beautiful machine! Like Alain I need the house extension first. I have the Genius 68030 London module already.

It gives me goosebumps when I sit down to beat it. A feeling which lasts only as long as it takes for the Mephisto to go a pawn up.

Arsenal v Bayern tonight. It will be close? Chelsea's win against Barcelona last night was one of the great games of recent years.

All the best

May be you will be as lucky as me : I planned to wait for a big event to buy one (either to be 2000 Elo (will never arrive) or to reach my 40th birthday) and two weeks ago, another collector (who already had a Tasc) gave me the coordinates of a seller :
1) an hour drive from home => I have been able to see the Tasc before buying it, and there was no shipping hazard
2) and a very attractive price (Steveb says "incredible")
And that's it... a miracle !

Alain

Ah the joy Alain. Something you want, when you want it, at a bargain price. Congratulations.

I can only sit back in wonder. Much of my time lately has been spent trying to coax American sellers into selling to me something they want to sell, at a price they want to sell at, on an auction I have won in accordance with the listing but they decide to back out of the deal anyway.

The duplicate, now back to a v2.2, will be sold or swapped eventually as I do not need two.
